Building my own bed....
SO what's the secret to prevent the squeaks??
I had also ben thinking about Barn Wood Dr....
Maybe, more than likely I'll build panels from 2x6 and clamp and glue. I don't have a power planer but if I send the heck out of it should be ok.

Where abouts do you live? My uncle made one that was pretty cool. He needed some trees cleared from around his property and use the trees to make like a log cabin style bed. Thing was pretty cool, if you like the old log style furniture.
I'm not goin' any further with this one!
But again, if you use steel or even aluminum, you won't hafta worry 'bout no dang squeekin'! chaikwa.
Oh yeah, on a serious note, forgot to mention... I dunno where you live, but I have a buncha ash, cherry and maple I could saw up to be usable for your project if you wanna go that route. Be glad to donate it to the cause!

When my wife and I were dating, we decided to build a headboard. I took several sheets of newspaper and taped them all together then sketched out the design. Cut it out and transferred it to a piece of cabinet grade oak plywood, then used a combination of jigsaw/rotozip to cut it out. Rounded over the edges with a router. For posts we got a couple of oak stair posts and I hand cut mortise joints with a hammer and chisel. Glued it all together and stained it. We topped it off with a piece of decorative trim in the center. It's not perfect, but we had a lot of fun building it. The only problem was that we built it for a queen size bed and ended up with a king after we bought our house.
Oh well, it looks great sitting in my shop right now.

Thanks for the good tips. I especially appreciate your offer Chaikwa, very generous.. I'd love some beautiful hardwood like that to build with unfortunately I'm a little far away.
I had a bauddy who built a log type bed back in the day when I lived in wooded areas, now I'm a prarie boy and don't have that luxury...
