Good Morning guys.....
Well got the filly to K-State yesterday and the radiographs did NOT show any fracture!!!!!YEA!!!!!!!!
however, she has a small B-B sized puncture wound right on the front of the Knee that has abcessed,so she is not 100% out of the woods. If the infection gets into the joint itself, she will probably be lame for life. The radiograph also did not show a foriegn object in teh wound , but it may have been hidden by the pus-pocket.
Got a 15 year old kid who's parents property is adjacent to mine. I guess the previous owner of my place told the kid he could hunt and fish on the property anytime he wanted.Well, when we moved in, I told him that due to the horses, I would be enforcing a strict No-trespassing and an even stricter No Hunting policy..and the little "gentleman" told me to go do something with myself that normally requires a partner.found him on the property hunting with a 22 and a pellet gun twice the first few months we were there but not for the last year( after visiting his parents)...seen the kid along the property line twice recently with his pellet rifle shooting at squirrels and such. Now.. all that is very circumstanial, but am I wrong to want to go over and wring the little so and so's neck??????
the bill so far on my filly is $500 and she is at the hospital for 2 days while they try to get the swelling down. IF they find anything in there( means another $200 radiograph to tell) then I am looking at surgery on her knee, which at the best means she will have a scar for life, effectivly ending her show carreer.......
I am a hair ticked off........what a way for me and the BOSS to spend Valintines Day......

Thanks for letting me vent.....CD

I have a one word answer for you, wait. You obviously are a patient person so continue with the well thought out approach. After you have all the facts from the vet, and if the wound is in fact from a pellet, take the pellet and the vet bills and contact the local law enforcement to set a meeting with the parents of the little gentleman next door. In the meantime, contact your local wildlife (fish and game) department and see if you can make a friend there and ask some questions. If F&G can handle the case you may get better results and greater satisfaction because F&G officers tend to be more compassionate and they are animal advocates.

I would call the police and get them involved right away. Then both the cops and you should have a talk with the parents and tell them about the wound. Tell them what you know right now. The fact he has been on your property after you told him to stay off is tresspassing. The fact you now have a wounded horse is very suspect.

Oh, no...I'm not in trouble. The wife was not mad/upset one little bit.

I was the one that was po'd. I did not let her know that I was upset, but I was really sweet to her.

Gotta go watch the kids so that they can tell my old lady that she is blind as a bat.
Be back in a little while. Picking up chicken for lunch. I'm getting some gizards too, so watch out...

TTRd, I am just venting.. Thre's no real evidence right now that it was the kid next door, and even finding a pellet in there wont prove that it was HIM..so I wont do anything...not my style...
its just one of those things.......
I was a cop too long round here and know what consitutes a workable case and what doesnt. I wouldnt waste the local guys or F&G's time with this. Still angry, but hey, its all a part of life, ya know?
now if I ever SEE the kid shooting towards my horses?well, they DO shoot back............ at least enough to scare the soul out of the body....

Chris,
If it is a pellet, there may very well be rifiling marks on it. Have the locals do a match with one from the rifle. If they do match, it's kinda cut and dried.

Gooood morning DTR. What a change in the weather, 0C today as of now. This weather is nuts. I'll take it though and stop complaining now.

Chrisreyn sorry to hear about your horse, hope it goes well. Are you flushing it with betadine/water solution? That sure seemed to help when ours jabbed his knee on a stick out in the bush. It was like you said the size of football when he did it, turned out ok. Rode him till he was 29 years old. Not a show horse though just for riding.

Hat my wife did the same thing to me. We said no presents for each other, well she showed up with a box of chocolates. Good thing I've seen this movie before picked up some flowers and had really nice meal when she walked in last night. Scallops in cream sauce, fancy rice and a nice salad, I think she was impressed.
I'm sure I scored BIG points. HaHa

I'vebeen down that road onteh other side of the fence.. I beleive the way i used to explain it was .."the cost of investigation is not warranted by the severity of the offense"..." we only have one forensics lab with those capabilities,at the KBI, and those resources need to be utilized for teh more serious offenses and crimes against people." Understand that even had i seen the kid shoot one of the horses, it is still a misdeamenor offense.
Like i said, I was venting.....thanks for the ears though...

Howdy, about to go start working on my essay for my scholarship application.
I'm looking at the TV, CNN is on and it just said that Afghanistan needs more road infrastructure while Bush is speaking. I guess this means more funding for AFDOT. And the local farmers need incentives to grow something other than poppys.

Oh and to add to the weather update for Stephenville, Texas. When I posted last it was 27* and the sun had just popped out, now the sun is shining and it's sleeting at 25*. I wonder why everyone is coughing and sneezing???

16 degrees here. Not sure what the wind chill is. And don't even really want to know. I have a full trailer of round bales to unload tonight after I get home and my tractor is cab-less. Gonna bundle up like the michelyn man, drink a cup of power service and get on it I guess. Wonder if the redneck unloader would work on 5X6 rounds? 4 lo build 10 pounds and launch.
