Bowling
I bowled in 2 leagues a week for a year, but that was 6 years ago, averaged 180 or so. We started going back about a month and a half ago (3 year old nephew LOVES it!). I just bought a Columbia 300 Wicked B/r/t ball a couple of weeks ago and am still getting used to it. I went and threw some by myself the other day 124-187-167-143, one of these days I'll remember how to do it like I used to, I hope.

Tried again
Ok, went back tonight. Rolled 167-157-134 a little more consistent but I would really like to see some higher peak numbers. If only I could find an old blue pearlized pulse ball, then I could maybe find the line I used to throw. Oh well.

It just takes practice. I hadn't bowled in about 20 years and then about 5 years ago my brother started bowling and wanted to start a team. We said OK and I went out and got a good ball and some cheap shoes. Within about 4 months my average was around 190 but I was obsessed and open bowling 2 or three times a weekend. By the time I decided I didn't want to bowl anymore my average was exactly 200. My daughter was born and I just wanted to come home to be with her. I keep thinking about getting back on a league but haven't done it yet...
Dodgezilla, I think your right I'll keep practicing and see how it goes. I've got to agree with you tho, I can't think of a better reason to quit bowling than a new baby. Maybe one day you can take her with you, I know my nephew sure loves to go with us. We get him his own lane right beside ours, put the bumpers up, and he has a blast! Consiquently, no one has to rock him to sleep after we get home if ya know what I mean.

Being as I'm in the military, Bowling is a must-learn activity (right up there with Golf).
I bowled a base league just for fun because I sucked. Averaged about 115-120. I got friendly with the lady at the alley who talked me into buying my own ball and getting it drilled and sized to my hands.
Based on her advice, I bought a Faball Black Hammer and had it drilled for a fingertip grip. It's a 15lb 10oz ball, so the fingertip was tough at first.
After buying this ball, I averaged 170-175. NO other changes. I was happy. PR was 238 scratch.
I don't have special shoes or any of that crap, as then people might expect me to know what I'm doing.
The combo of heavy ball and fingertip grip makes for an improved game, but after a 3-game series, I'm feeling the fatigue in my forearm for sure.

i bowl on thursday's in a mixed league, my dad got me started but had to give up the league cause he went on night work.
we have some good guys in our league, one has a 212 avg, my avg was 187, but has dropped to 181 over the last 18 weeks. my highest game is a 257, but my dad has bowled TWO 300 games in the last 3 years.
i use a mass chaos 16lb'er as a strike ball...and rarely have to use the Zone 16lb'er to pick up a spare on the right side of the lane.

I don't keep a spare ball. Mine are all strike ***** for different lane conditions. I start about five boards to the left when I throw the ball and I have a pretty good hook so I don't leave much on the right side either. The only time I leave pins on the right is if I have to move way over to the right and throw a straighter ball due to too much oil on the lanes...
Being right handed myself I DO leave a lot of 10 pins (far right), but I'm getting better at picking them up. I don't really use a spare ball either, I just have two ***** right now, my Wicked and an old Track Synergy solid, the wicked is polished too much to hook gradually its more of a snap ball. The synergy is more of a gradual hook ball since it is dull, but does not move as far as the wicked does (if rolled properly). I would like to find an old blue pulse ball, or I rolled a friends phenom unleashed and liked it as well. I've got a line on a Formula ball for a good price but I don't know anyone who uses one, any of you used one?

These ***** are in and out just like electronics equipment. What was hot 6 months ago may not be anything today. Good luck finding the ball you want. Check the pro shop. They usually have ***** other people traded in...
Yeah, I've checked the local pro shops and NO ONE has a pulse, the phenom is not really hard to find I just don't want to spend a fortune on a ball I am going to have to have re-drilled. I think I am going to try the formula and see what happens. If you happen by a pro-shop that has a blue pulse, let me know, I'll buy it.

I just returned to the lanes after 8 years. I found I needed all new stuf as the lanes and equipment have changed dramatically. I used to bowl 5 nites a weeka nd practice 2 of those. Our team won a pile during the years I was with them. the season just got to be too long and I also move to another state.
I just bowl in a fun league with the guys from work. We also bowl one afternoon a week just for fun. this is rapidly becoming a techno group as we all are engineers so we have tohave the latest hi teck stuff.
Not as youg as I used to be so Idon't have quite the power i used to but the new equipment can make up for that.
Ran 8 in row tonight in the fun league. Hi of the season. conditions vary from heavy oil to bone dry. With bowlers of very different skill levels the lane condition change very fast. It is still fun
My dad and I used to bowl together for years. The last time he was at the lanes he was 84 and rolled 180 avge.
I have q new Storm X Factor and really like it. It works good on med oil but is a handfull when it gets dry. when it is dripping oily it flattens out. It still hits hard because it is a high turn ball.
Funny my spare ball Columbia yellow dot only turns about 10 turns max where the X Factor turns about 20+.
The Yellow dot does't hit anywhere near as hard. It was good ball in its day but still a good spare ball today.

I agree with you wings, things (lanes) have changed a lot! The ***** that used to be hook monsters are now just good spare ***** or light hook *****. I don't think it will ever be a steady thing, I think there will be constant changes to make the game more difficult, or more profitable, or just different! I guess sometimes you just get used to something working for you even if it may not work for you in todays conditions. I always said I would never buy a "hook in a box" ball, but with these heavy patterns we have to play today on synthetic lanes, you just about have to.
