Unhappy Blacking out taillight lenses

I got an idea and need to black out part of a taillight lense. What would be a good thing for this? Just paint? What do they use on those hitch braklights that have the designs in them? That is what I'm looking for. Originallly the sticker guy I went to made the design up in black vinyl and the design was clear vinyl. The black vinyl wont block the light.

Do you want to put it inside or outside the lens?
You could use some good electrical tape like Scotch33 or if it needs to be wider, go to a plumbing supply and get the gas pipe wrap tape. It's about 2" wide and thick so light will not go through it.

I cant get to the inside. Wont the tape peel after a while if its on the outside? Actually it is going on one of those hitch brake light things. Haven't figured how to get it apsrt to change the light, or else it would be on the inside.

Only thing is then I would have to cut the design out into. If I were to use a spray type of thing, I could slap the sticker on, spray and peel the sticker off, leaving the unpainted lense in the shape I wanted. hmmmmmm

Cool thanks. I found how to take it apart, but all the "refractors" for the light are on the inside and it wont stick so its gotta go on the outside.
