Re:Best hammer drill???

Thanks for all your suggestions so far. Keep 'em coming. The actual purchase will have to wait until my next trip north, but in the meantime I am gathering useful info. Have had a little experience with keyless chucks. Nice, but they don't hold as well as a keyed chuck for HD work.
Battery powered drills are nice but when I use my drill I tend to use it for extended periods so will forget that.
Now have to find a place that can sell me what I decide on at a good price. Probably in the San Antonio, Brownsville or McAllen area.
Check out this link

This place has some the the best prices I have found anywhere. They blow my local Bargain Supply right out of the water on everything from large floor machinery to hand tools. 8) They also have a customer rating under the products to help you deside on the best tool.

As for hammer drills if you are just wanting a hammer drill go with a Hilti. Like the others have said you can't kill em. If you need a dual purpose drill that will do it all go with this one click here again We had two of these at the cabinet place I used to work and one picked me up of a 8' ladder one day. The have some awesome torque in small package.

Good Luck

DB

Re:Best hammer drill???

For regular, non hammer drilling, my dad's got a DeWalt that has yet to let us down. We've run over the thing with the truck and it keeps on going. Keyless chuck works great on it. Even has a little level on the back to tell you if you are drilling straight. He also had an ol' Craftsman that lasted him 25 or so years before the bearings in it died.

Re:Best hammer drill???

Mexstan,
I think you have had enough straight answers so I'll tell you what I think the best hammer drill is. The best hammer drill is your best friend's hammer drill. You can borrow it whenever you want and not have to buy one yourself. At least that has worked for me.

Mexstan,
First I have to give my friend that has a come-along my tap and die set, then he gives our other friend his come along. The other friend (who now has the come along) gives his jack and jackstands to another friend with a torque wrench. That friend now gives his torque wrench to the friend with the hammer drill, who then will give me the hammer drill.
As you can see, this is quite a long process and it may take me a while to get it to you, so you might want to pick up your own on your next trip north.
