I haven't bought anything from these guys, but someone posted the link here before. They list amber LED backups that should fit our trucks: http://autolumination.com/1156_backup.html

Hey thanks Jim!

I think I may try those 19 LED type and see if they are any brighter.

Thanks guys, you helped liberate a fifty from my wallet today... Bought and installed a set on the rear today...amber lens but with that funny bluish tint, they look sharp. Used the reverse lights to trigger the relay as well....

Firestorm thanks for the idea, been scratching my head trying to find a decent place for the cab switch, never even thought about shifter console thingy down there...

Here's the wiring diagram for the backup lights using a relay and three-way switch. I copied this from another thread. Hope that it helps.

Where'd you guys run the wires to the cab switch? Doesn't look like there is any really potected bundle to add to from the rear to the cab, I could always add another run of that split loom stuff I used to protect all the rest of the wiring at the rear (power and ground taken from the trailer lighting assy). But thats a long run for just a single wire, if ya'll found another route I'd be glad to borrow it.

hmmmm thinking again...wonder if i can find that purple wire at the dash somewhere to switch 12v into as if the tranny were in reverse and use the existing wiring instead..... think the smoke is gonna fall out of something tonight.

Oh Oh.... If there's one thing I learned in the military, if you let the smoke out, it don't work any more.

No problem. with the help of Mr. Top, I now have a picture of the switch, and other things, in my photo gallery. One thing I did with the switch is, I reversed the 'battery' wire and 'light' wire. Now, the switch only lights up when it is in the 'on' position. This reminds me that the rear lights are on.

There is a picture of my lights in my gallery. I used the diagram attached above for my wiring. All of the wiring is run along the existing factory looms. The switch is mounted in my cab on the dash near the headlight switch.

Since I didn't need the stock back-up lights,,,,,,,,,, I replaced the clear bulbs with amber and rewired the sockets to act as turn signals in the tail lights. I ran wires from the front signals to the ambers so that the ambers don't come on when you hit the brakes. They only act as turn signals and emergency flashers
i've been planning on doing that with my lights once the weather gets nicer. i have a set of 55w driving lights i kinda want to use as backup lights, but they are big [5" or 6" baja style].. but i am going to wire in a resistor in the ±0.2 ohm range and a 3 way switch to give me dim backup, bright backup, and utility light [going to wire in a safety to the parking brake switch so i don't turn it on to blind someone on the road while driving]
