i have a ravelco unit waiting to be installed in truck in sig.

my questions to those that have one installed:
Where is it and how do you like it?
Would you put it somewhere else if you were to do it again?
Do you still use for its function or just leave it plugged in fulltime?
Keep it on your keychain or hidden in the truck?

Where is it and how do you like it?
Mounted to the left of my OBDII connector, the left mounting screw for the OBDII is used for one of the mounting holes for the Ravelco bracket, works for me...

Would you put it somewhere else if you were to do it again?
Location I have makes it easy on and easy off...

Do you still use for its function or just leave it plugged in fulltime?
It gets pulled and taken with me 80% during the day and always at night...

Keep it on your keychain or hidden in the truck?
Kept on my keychain...

I put mine on one of the screws for the lower instrument panel cover to the left of the OBD connector also.



Would you put it somewhere else if you were to do it again?

YES - I have a standard tranny and it is too close to my leg when pushing in/out the clutch. It's a good location otherwise, you can snap on the plug before getting in to start the truck and remove it easily before getting out.



Do you still use for its function or just leave it plugged in fulltime?

I remove it every time the truck is parked, out and about town or at home.




Keep it on your keychain or hidden in the truck?

I keep mine on my keychain. I put a small ring on the RAVELCO plug and also have a snap on that ring, just snap to my keys.



You will get used to using it in no time. I have forgotten to plug it in several times - brings a smile to me quickly because it reminds me how great it works.

--> Mounted mine in the same area as the other two, I don't have issues with it.

--> Truck is a hanger queen, so it spends most of the time in my garage, which has its own alarm system. When I go out in the town, I pull it. Issues I have is when you try to start the truck without the ravelco in place, I have to reset my BullyDog monitor every time.

--> I take it with me....

 

thanks guys. the obd connector must be on the left under the steering wheel in 3rd gens. i'm pretty sure mine is on the right under the steering wheel. . .

thanx guys for all the info. it is being installed tomorrow (friday morning). i chose to flush mount as the first option and under dash as 2nd. just depends how much room is behind the dash in the chosen location to work. i'll post pics when i get it back.

 

just remember this. if you flush mount it, and you have to remove the dash to do ANY HVAC work, the Ravelco will be in the way and you might not be able to complete the repairs. just a thought.

 

it is supposed to be on the left side of the dash on the outermost panel beside the door, just above the e-brake release mechanism.

do you foresee any problems with this particular location?

 

as long as it is removable and can be out of the way. i discourage flush mounting

 

the only other way to move it is to completely uninstall the system and you don't want to do that.

 

the panel removable or the ravelco removable?
does the ravelco slide in from the front on flush mounts? and is the only way to remove them from flush mount to pull it out instead of just dropping it from the underside on a non-flush mount?

 

the ravelco goes into the flush mount hole from the front and has a backing nut to hold into place. then the harness goes thru the firewall. the only way to remove it is to un-install it. not easy and not fun. you want the panel that it is attached, to be able to be clear of anything so if you have to do any hvac work it won't be in the way

 

the panel it is going into is very difficult to remove. it is the panel to the left of the knee bolster/steering column panel.
