I have been away from Linux for a while but you can download GParted and experiment with it just to get a feel for it.Back in the days when I was using it there were no help files for it but maybe that has changed by now.It is a powerful program.
The reason that I suggested using Mandrive Linux before is that it is much friendlier to use when setting up the dual boot system,at least it was for me.
If your computer will run XP then it should have no problem with Mandriva.
Too bad you didn't have a system to practice on.After you get a feel for the directory structure that Linux requires then you can get brave enough to experiment a little.I will give you a link with some very extensive documentation on it,there is no question that cannot be answered here if you have the time to search it out.I have spent hours looking and reading here, not that I remembered much of it but there is no place that I know of that that has this level of information in one place.Have fun.

Yeah I loaded mandriva on my old laptop but it wouldnt let me dual boot it for some reason (i think its because the laptop is 5 years old and litteraly falling apart). I like the way ubuntu works though. It looks a lot better also.. I might just add another hard drive to this computer and see if I can dual boot from the other drive if i have one laying around that still works.

One more question...

Well i got Ubuntu set up on this crazy thing and I love it! It doesn't support my dual-monitors very well, but I'm getting used to it. I can't figure out how to get my sound to work. It doesn't recognize the drivers for the sound card. Does anyone know what to do about this?

I swear I'll get back to the diesel questions in a little bit!

I figured it out...helps if you have the jack in the right outlet....yeah... Anyways, I have gotten Ubuntu all set up and i don't think I will EVER go back to windows! This thing can do so much more than windows will ever do, and it hasn't locked up once!

Well, the wrong jack isn't exactly software related.

If you think that Ubuntu is fast you'll need to try gentoo. It takes longer to set up but then it's only wow...

I have been using a D-Link DWL-650 802.11b in my Dell Latitude CPxJ 650 with no problems.I did not try encryption with it on the Linux side however but you can at least use MAC filtering I am sure.Ron G
