I don't have any experience with yaks, but I would suspect that they are much like Buffallo in the maintenance aspects. They are basically the same animal, just adapted to a different land. Having seen them a few times in the wild, I will tell you that if they decide they are leaving, no fence you put up will stop them. And like Buffallo they are not domesticated and therefore never to be trusted no matter how tame they seem.

According to several online sites, the Yak has been domesticated since the first millennium BC, and there are now more than 12 million domestic yaks in the highlands of Central Asia. Still, it doesn't look like you'd want to be facing the business end of those horns.

Never had any experiance with them. A friend had them and we would throw little rocks and them and they wouldn't move, def. big animals. Now that I'm bigger and a hunter, I agree never trust any animal. Of course respect is to be had for them, no fence will stop them but a 50 Cal BMG sure will Of course that will also chop them up nicely too (sorry gun nut)

Domestic Yaks Wild Yaks - Keeping
Yaks are easy to fence; they require no special consideration since they mix well with other livestock, and only need some shade when it's hot. Yaks eat about half of what an average beef animal does. Yaks carry loads equivalent to a packhorse, but require no special feeding other than browsing. Yaks are trained in several months, can carry a full pack by 2 years of age, and can be used for more than 20 years. Yaks groom themselves, clean their hooves with the help of their horns.

i saw a lot of them in newmexico and colorado, mostly in the higher country. they were petty tame, heck my kids went out and checked them out and they came running to the fence. i think they thought they were getting feed.
