Anybody tried a Solar Powered Auto Air Vent?

I live in Texas where it gets hot hot hot all summer. Most days in July and August are above or close to 100 degrees with not a cloud in site. My BLACK truck has to sit outside in it most of the time. Needless to say, a parking spots value is higher based on it's proximity to shade rather than being close to the building/mall/restaurant etc you are going to.

A friend of mine mentioned this idea so I did a quick search and came up with this. Has anybody tried one of these Solar Powered Auto Air Vents or something similar to this? Do they work? Do they last?

I think you are right. I am probably going to order one, but I wanted to see if anybody had tried one before.

I had one a few years back and I felt like it was a waste of money - You just can't beat that Texas heat...

I like how they play on the word "cool" air from outside. I guess 105* inside is better than 150*. Let us know who it works.

Seems to me that many years ago I used to see an ad (Popular Mechanics???) for something similar that worked by rolling a window down part way and sticking this gizmo in the gap and rolling the window back up to secure it. Can't remember if a fan was included in this or not, but do remember another advertized gizmo that fitted in the window that turned a fan on between certain temps. I always wondered if they would run the battery down on extended parking on a very hot day.
Anybody else remember these gizmos? Wonder what happened to them?

B'ah.

I clean pools all day, all summer, in what is often over 100 degree heat.

I keep the windows down, open up the vent windows, slide open the floor vent and turn on my blower, and I find that any heat is comfortable, even when you're covered with chlorine dust and dirt. And The Incubator doesn't even have air conditioning.

Oh, that's right, all you guys with the newer trucks don't have floor vents, good blowers or wing windows.

(First gen's forever, baby...)

So did anyone ever try this product? Inquiring minds want to know.

It looks very similar to the www.autocooltv.com that I saw advertised recently. If someone can tell me that it actually works, I may try one. A few degrees does make a difference when you're in the triple digits.

I find dropping all windows about 1/2" to 1" with vent shades works nicely. at a glance, you cant tell the windows are down, keeps the afternoon showers out and lets the heat out.

"So we set up two tests, one with Marilynn, in the gold Chevy, and one with Jane, inside the black Explorer. With a little help from our friend at Sacramento Metro Fire, we check the temp in both cars sitting in the afternoon sun. First Jane’s, with two thermometers.

"151 degrees, that’s hot. That's very hot," Pebbler said. Now we'll check Marilynn's.

It sounds pretty simple. Place the Auto Cool on the window and add the weather stripping. But it turns out, it's not as simple as it seems. While placing the weathering strips on the explorer, no problems.

Would Christian want to do that every single day? He quickly replied, "No."

And on Marilynn’s car? "The weather stripping was not easy to put on. And looking at it now? There's a little bit of a gap it's not as straight down," said Marilynn.

But the solar power gets the fan moving with ease. And there's even hot air coming out of the fan.

......

So we decide to wait inside where there's air conditioning. We let the auto cool go to work for a full half hour. So here's the defining moment. Is Marilyn’s car cooler?

Look at the thermometer, it's a whopping 185-degrees, actually 30-degrees warmer!!!

" What do you think about the Auto Cool? "

Marilynn replied, "Not a lot. Not a lot. I wouldn't buy it. For $14.99 not, no."

Hmm. Maybe not. Oh well, another $22.94 saved.

I just leave the windows down bout an inch when in town, the little windows on the quad doors open, they dont open far. Use one of those reflective sun shades in the windshield, and lay one on the seat for the sun that comes in the door windows. Keeps from burning the back of the legs when I drive in my speedo.

I know little about these gizmos.

I recently went to a trucking expo at Louisville, Kentucky; they have this every year.

There were no less than twenty different brands of solar-powered window fans on display/demonstration.

These were fairly heavy-duty units, aimed at the over-the-road market.

Most looked like they would have to help.

Maybe you should check out a trucking show in your area.
