Pure gold right there! And very very true.

I don't care how big and tough you are, there is ALWAYS someone bigger and tougher. There is also the lucky shot the little guy can get that can ruin your day or career.

Talk first fight last.

They only supply the uniform.

To all police here, what can I expect from my new career? Is it like any other job where the fun wears off and it gets boring? I'm really excited
Congrats man! I think Police and Teachers are generally the most misunderstood public servants. I have friends and family in these careers. Many of the mis-informed love to explain to them their duties and responsibilities. I am neither, as I am doing my public servant duties working in state government.

I pray you enjoy your career and God's Will.

Congrats! There are times when I wish I had followed through with being a Police Officer.

Yes! Hit the nail on the head with that one. That is one thing that my Fire Instructors absolutely drilled in to our head.

Just because a call comes in that seem like a routine BS call, one that you may have been on a few times already, does not mean that it is this time.

I have to disagree on the Teachers, EMTs and Firefighters are way more misunderstood.

EMTs either have the family po'd if the patient doesnt survive, or we have the patient po'd, because we cracked a rib doing CPR, or broke a tooth trying to intubate, and they are alive.

Firefighters, are misunderstood because sometimes we have to knock a hole in a wall or ceiling to find a fire, and save a persons house.

Im not saying that Teachers arent misunderstood, just not as much as an EMT or Firefighter.

Sorry to get off topic, just had to get that out.

That's odd. Cops often say they should have been a fire fighter. At least people would be glad to see you when you show up.

Anyhow, congrats on the police job. There will be both exciting and boring times, and there is a burnout factor from always seeing people at their worst.

Thanks for all your responses!!! I got a call today to come down to the station and I got sworn in. I start on saturday for a local parade. I have an entire section by myself so I am kinda nervious, but I'm sure it will be OK. Any advice on dealing with people from you experienced folks would be appreciated.
