Ants

Sugar ants or something similar, they are pretty small and not fire ants, have found the wifes humming bird feeders. They are climbing up the the vega poles - across the beam and back down the cable hanger for the feeders. Any ideas on how to get rid of these little pests, she has tried cinnamon sprinkled on the ground (suggested by the "queen of clean" book) and they just march a path right thru it. I have followed the path and they are going several hundred feet into the neighbors junk pile. Cant go on neighbors yard to erradicate nest, she will call department of ag on me, long story.

Thanks for any suggestions

Terro, usually available at ACE hardware stores. The liquid or baits will kill the mound. Remember also that ants follow chemical trails that they lay down. In the home, you wash or mop the area they're traveling on to remove the chemical trail and then spray with Terro and the ants are gone.

Seven dust around the bottom of the pole. I usally spray seven in a 10' band around the house every year to keep the little critters out.

A band of grease or vasealine around the pole will stop them from climbing instantly, to give the above time to work

Diatomaceous Earth sprinkled all around .... works for spiders and other creepy crawlies.

Get the stuff at the swimming pool supply store.

Cheers,

Since you said they are crawling down the wire used to hang the feeder, put the grease on the wire.

You need more ingredients and it is harder to get them to eat it, but it will work

Amdro works good here for ants. They take the bait back to the nest and DIE.
