www.allischalmers.com

That's a tractor forum like we have here...my brother gets on there, lots of decent info. Just ask questions, they'll point you in the right direction!

Just a warning though...there are as many options for orange paint as there are opinions...and they'll give them to you all! So unless you wanna shell out the money for OEM paint (which on a '61 I don't think it's too terrible...I'll check) it might not be "just right"

I'll look up the paint info and be back!

You can also go to tractordata.com and get some of the information on it. I think that connects with yesterdaystractor.com. Chris is right though, the correct color scheme for Allis is a mess to deal with. Everyone thinks something different. Although I think I am correct on a D17 that at least the rims should be silver and the middles should be orange (power shift rims). My dad grew up around them and said that they even came from the dealer with different colors depending on the dealer.

Good luck, they are pretty fun tractors to mess with. Right now I am working on a B for a friend and pretty soon will have a WD 45 Diesel to get painted up for my dad.

Rim color depends on the Series...which I think should be Series III on a 1961 model. The early ones were orange, with orange wheels...later ones were silver, with either orange or cream wheels.

Let me see what AGCO says!

Well, there you go. I know the cream color ones looked kinda to me. I think the orange/silver combo looks the best, but that's just me. I'll have to see if I can find a pic of the WD-45 diesel we fixed up for my brother.

Grew up on a WD-45 too. My brother and I used to go out and disc for my dad during the spring, and put up hay during the summer. Spent lots of days on one of those. At least they were diesel. . . . the bug was planted early.

Here's the paint breakdown AGCO lists:
Sheet Metal ---> Persian Orange #2
Wheels (Centers) ---> Cream
Rims (outside, where he tire mounts) ---> Persian Orange #2, OR Cream
Chassis ---> Persian Orange #2
Misc ---> Cream

If you want, I can snap some pictures of our restored D17's and show you how they're laid out...we have some Series I's, II's, and III's...all restored by a really picky old AC dealer!

Me and my dad have a D17.....the year slips my mind though. I absolutely LOVE that tractor! It purrs like a kitten and pulls like no other.....best tractor we've had! I've been trying to talk my dad into helping me repaint it, kind of like a father son project! I think it'd be fun.

The weights should be the same color as the wheel center's they're bolted to.

The "Old Allis News" is the national AC magazine, and right now, it's for sale. My Dad is very involved with the Ohio AC Club, the "Buckeye Allis Club" There are a few other regional clubs as well. Some thought has been put into buying the "Old Allis News" by a few people Dad knows, but nothing much is being done at this point...but I'll bet either way, there will still be a national club, and National Shows.

The tractor caravan to West Allis, WI was one of the "Gathering of the Orange" shows that happens in a few places each year...we really wanted to make it up to that one, but our schedules wouldn't allow it. We did make it to the one in Portage la Prarie, Ontario, Canada in 2005...they are really good shows if you like the old Orange machines.

I'll snap some pics this evening of the D17's...and probably a couple more of the rest of the collection. Right now, we're sitting somewhere between 110-120 tractors...mostly AC's, but some Deutz's, Case's, a couple Deere's...basically, we collect anything a little different...high crops, orchard tractors, foreign models, etc!

The 440 is a Steiger Bearcat with a 555 Cummins V8 instead of the 3208 CAT...we have one, we're the second owner, 4500Hrs, with a complete service history. One of these days, we'll restore it...for now, we use it some

Ever see an AC Cotton Picker?
