Air compressor help which one to buy
My current compressor took a dump. It is not worth repairing.
I need some help with my next purchase.
Here are my choices.
Tractor supply has a ingersoll rand vertical 5hp 2 stage 80 gal 175psi @15.2cfm model TS4N5 FOR $999.00.
Another vertical ingersoll rand model 2340L5 has a 60 gal 2 stage 5hp 14.7cfm@175psi. Best price I have found is $1199.99.
The TS4N5 has two inline pump cylinders.
The 2340L5 has a 2 pump cylinders in a vee configuration.
Aside from the different tank size and cfm rating and $200 cheaper, what is the difference.

ric,
I got the 5 hp Ingersoll from Tractor Supply. But I got the single stage because it has a higher CFM and I don't need 175 PSI. If you need 175 PSI go with the two stage, but the single cuts out at 135 PSI and has, I think, 18.3 CFM at 90 PSI. It's higher than the 2 stage. It runs the plasma cutter and grinders and stuff very well. The compressors are both verticle inline cast iron twins. They have roller bearing crankshafts and all parts are available. Simple, old fashioned and well proven. Also, the verticle tank is a plus. I plumbed my condensate drain to a ball valve and out through the wall so there's no mess inside.
They were advertised at $899 but I asked the guy for 10% off and he said OK.
By far the best compressor I've ever had and a great deal for the money. They are a bit loud though. Mine's out in the pump house, but in the garage you might wake the family with those midnight projects.
Whatever compressor you get, don't be fooled by the phony HP ratings most carry! Look at the motor and if it says 5 horsepower, fine. If it says SPL, that means you are being lied to. Or just compare the CFM ratings at 90 PSI. Single stage puts out more than two stage in the practical pressure ranges.

Have you looked at Home depot? I found one that was good for what I needed for about $450.00.Not online in store only.
Single stage upright 230volt 5hp 135 PSI if I remember correctly. Does not seem to be a bad one but you may need more volume .

I have looked at the home depot compressors. I want a cast iron 2 stage compressor that turns slow(less than 900rpm) at the pump. I do run a sand blaster along with other air tools and need the cfm. Also the slow speed compressors are not as loud and last longer.
I am kind of leaning towards an eaton compressor as they have a great 5 year bumper to bumper warrenty.
Anyone using an eaton.

Later today I am going to look at a used low hour champion VR-5 5hp 80 gal. The guy selling it said about 75 hrs total and well maintained. Purchased in the 80's.
I have read alot of good stuff about alot of different air compressor manufacturers and this seems to be the best machine for the price.

Anyone have or know anything about the 7.5 hp 80 gal US GENERAL compressors they sell at harbor freight. I think they have baldor motors but I am not sure.
I thought the champion line was supposed to be good quality being part of gardner denver company.
