I have seen some with woods beds, some with steel. We had a 67 or 68 and 69 shortbed stepside when I was younger (should have kept them) and both had wood beds. I am not sure what the reason behind it or what trim code dictated the bed.

If I hang onto it and want to drive it more I may look at separate 350 700r4 combo that is a bit hotter than the stock motor. Might be silly to have two separate engine and drivetrains but this motor is clean, doesn't smoke and the tranny is in great shape. That way I can say it is all original.

 

Nice truck, I'd keep her original as posssible.

 

I was going to say a 700 goes right in where a 400 comes out but if all of that is in good shape I'd leave it alone and just swap the rear end gear if you want to cruise it.

I'd paint it and do no more than a vintage air A/C or equivelant and a period correct exhaust like glasspacks running straight out the back.


Also some vintage tires like from Coker would go a long way. Maybe mudders in the back like co-op grip spurs or buckshots.

 

Here is some more classic chevy candy. I also have the original distributor (HEI on it right now), another intake, 3 stock radios, some assorted lenses and additional trim just in case.

Here is the original owners manual, dealer check and adjustment assuming from when it came off the truck or train. Dealer plate imprint, period manuals, period advertising. Its a freeking time machine. I have the dealer sticker still on the tailgate and even the GM plastic baggy for all of the stuff.
