Took the GF, who also happens to be my wife, to that movie last night.

That edit intense.

 

Never personally been around a Seal, but from what I have read from Marsinko, it didn't seem too close to reality. Seemed like they sprayed and prayed way too much, had way inferior eqp, and even I ain't stupid enough to leave a laser on........

If I offend anyone, sorry, but that seemed more mall ninja than the way I would expect a professional to run.

 

I also saw the movie this weekend and have to say it is impressive what those guys can do. I have a couple of friends that were in the Seals and they definitely earn their pay! FWIW,.....Fox News interviewed a few of the REAL U.S. Navy Seals that were involved in that movie and they said they and the producers tried hard to make it as real as the could without giving up too many of their tactics.

Really? Those guys aren't going to be for real on a movie and give all their tactics away. It's like the pic circulating on the internet of the bin laden "kill" team. The description doesn't even have the rifles correctly id'd!

The two SeALS I have known, you would never had known it until they told you or someone else did. In my case I found out after I had known them a while, wasn't surprised really, quiet men but very strong character and always calm.

BTW, What's with these clowns claiming to be medal of honor recips in the news lately!? That mayor from CA even said he was a viet nam vet, and he never served in any military anywhere.

 

Phony Seals have always been with us. Most are pot bellied braggarts. Real Seals don't brag. Don't need to. And if you ask them which buds they were in, they can tell you. They also don't discuss any mission they've been on.

There used to be a site called Stolen Valor that exposed many of the phonies.

So,.....are you calling me a liar Sir?? Like I said,..... the guys interviewed by Fox News this past week looked to be the same guys that were featured in the movie. The credits at the end of that movie showed that there was "technical support" by the U.S. Navy and NSW (Naval Special Warfare). And FWIW,.....I NEVER said my two friends "bragged" or made known they were Seals, only that they "earn their pay" which they do!

I would say it is possible that maybe the Hollywood producers inserted some things that is "pure Hollywood" so they did NOT have to use some of the Seals secret and protected tactics!

 

Absolutely not! I am saying that I never take anything hollywood puts out at face value. Just as it would be foolish to display too much of our military's top stuff in a movie. The SeALS involved, of course, wouldn't give them very much anyway in the interest of their own safety. Just sayin its a movie, not a documentary.

I also think we may have posted up around the same time as I don't recall seeing your post above mine when I was posting.

I don't make it a habit of starting stuff with people I am not facing directly.

O.K. SIXSLUG,.....I just wanted to make sure you didn't misunderstand what I was trying to say in my previous post. I think everyone here knows the U.S. Navy and NSW (Naval Special Warfare) have to be careful about what they give Hollywood in a movie like this. But I am glad to see them get some recognition for what they do for the U.S. every single day.

I watched an interview with the producer and director. It was enlightening if not refreshing on their attitude in trying to effectively capture the feel and realism without giving secrets away.

They used live ammo in all the footage and not one instance of computer special effects.

 

Absolutely!

I talked to a friend "in the know" yesterday and he said he heard the SeAL scenes were filmed with live ammo, because at their level of training/ability they practice for the real thing, and were also used for some of the stunts as the stuntmen could not replicate what the SeALS did and keep their breathing under control.

My point earlier was that it maddens me to think how people, mainly the media, is spoiling to report and show things that we need to keep classified for our nation's security. Our troops lives are at stake every day and they deserve the courtesy of knowing we have their backs, especially at home.

By renting or going to this movie I am supporting the media/hollywood directly and I do not like them anymore, so I won't watch it.

 

Not to get political but I am on the fence about seeing this movie. The real guys are real heros and a good friend of mine was SOF. Like others have mentioned most come across as quite, strong character and calm.

They were done a disservice when the Commander in Chief road their coattails about the Bin Laden raid. That should have been kept quite as it took away an advantage all for the aim of having good press, but I digress.

They deserve our praise and admiration, but I don't want to open them up to vulnerabilities for the sake of entertainment.

 

The Night Stalkers are the best part of the whole movie.. I might be bias though
