80w90 Synthetic Gear Oil - ???
80w90 Synthetic Gear Oil - ???
My wife's 02 Pathfinder requires 80W90 gear oil, and I'd like to refill with synthetic. However, the only manufacturer that I've found that makes an 80w90 synthetic is Royal Purple, and they only sell it in the 5 gal. jugs. I really don't need that much. So....
1) Any other suggestions?
2) Do you think it'd be safe to use a 75w90 synthetic instead?
Any thoughts/comments/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks....

A few companys make 80-90 oil. I use mobil one in the truck, nice stuff. However you could use a dura blend (I think that's vavolines stuff) but it's good also, use it in the ATV differentials. Only reason I use syn is these trucks is cause I only do it every 25,000, and even then I think it's soon, but this truck is gonna be around for a long time. I know they use syn's in newer vehicles to get the millage up but if you used regular gear oil, doubt you'd see any difference at all (and you can change it twice for the price of one syn change)
As far as weight, 75-80 would be better cause it's a tad lighter than the 80 in the cold. Honistly 5w is not much difference at that weight. Your talking like at 0 degree's it takes 7.5 minutes to pour 75w and 8.0 minutes for 80 w. Not much difference.
Engine oil, dont' get the guys started on that one
