Initially, the problem was thought to involve only replacement tires. But Team 5 Investigates discovered it may threaten some cars bought new.

 

04 thanks for posting. This is the first place I have seen this warning. Time to go take a look see.

 

Just week before last, I found cracked valve stems on 3 of the 4 tire/wheel combos on my travel trailer as I was checking pressure to leave on a 1700 mile trip. All 4 tire/wheel combos were brand new a year ago. Tire shop said that they'd been seeing lots of bad stems recently. I got 4 new stems so I should be good for another few months. Might be time to upgrade to steel stems.

 

Interesting. I know all new 08 vehicles are required to have TPM(Tire Pressure Monitoring)...wonder if it affects the vehicles which have a TPM system from the factory.

I also had a used tire put on the truck last year, had them put a new HD rubber stem in because I knew I was getting a new set of tires shortly.

In the space of a few months, it had already cracked and was leaking air......

I had them put all 4 new metal stems in.

I wonder if they have metal TPMS stems?

 

Oh, great. I just had 4 tires done up for the wifes car. When she gets home from work I have to check it out.
