2000 Ram 2500 4wd V-8 gas

Guys,

Just ran across a slightly-rough 2000 Ram 2500 Quad-cab short bed 4wd with the 5.9L V-8 and an auto. Truck has been a farm truck since about 30k, it now has 170k on it. Has a fifth-wheel hitch in the bed, and it's been used. No dents or obvious neglect, except the doors and bed cornes have quite a bit of visable rust on the outside. New tires, good operational condition, and $4500 or best offer, which is why I may consider it.

I'm at a point of needing a extended cab, and with fuel prices as they are, and this only being an occasional use truck, I wonder if this would make sense to pick up for around $3750 and run for a couple of years. I would just have to keep an eye on the rust.

What are your experances and thoughts on this?

Well you better have some full off-shore bank accounts to dip into when you need to fill up That thing might get 10mpg on a good day! Other then that I think they are O.K. trucks, check the tranny fluid.

I gotta agree with busa, I had one of those with 4.10s and 10mpg was all it got empty or pulling.

Take a look under the doors, too. If they look bad on the outside, it won't be pretty underneath.

Actually - had it in mind for a friend with a small farm in the Quad Cities. They cannot go with it as a child seat won't fit in the rear seat of the truck - no LATCH capability.

Just thought for the price it wasn't bad. Time to pass....

IF they are gona pass on it because of the no laches in the back seat then get it. The child seats come with mounts to use the normal seat belts and if the seat belts dont have a lock feature the child seats come with a clip to lock the belt tite to hold the seat base. I had to use the clip on my wifes Trail Blazer and my mega cab. Both of ours have the laches but not in the middle where the child seat belongs.
