1997 chevrolet 1500 Power upgrade?
Have a friend that has a 1997 Chevrolet 1500 with the 305 in it. It is his sons truck, and he was wanting to bump the power on it some. The truck is stock as of now. 2 wheel drive, automatic. He was thinking about adding a good air intake, and maybe some sort of programmer or chip. I am not big on the fuel injected trucks as far as power upgrades, so I present this question to you guys.
What would be your reccomendation for this power upgrade. Open to all suggestions.

A nelson custom tune or an Ed Wright tune from faschip.com works really well on the GM trucks. An air intake and a free flowing exhaust will also help. The custom tunes will also firm up the shifting on the 4L60E quite a bit.

Does the 305 have vortec heads in 97? I didn't think the 305 came in vortec app. If not, the heads on the 305 are so choked down you probably won't getting much improvement in the seat-of- the pants performance. I don't believe the water ports would match up to swap 350 heads to it either. I hope for your friend it is a vortec, but I'm not so sure.
