1962 Caddy DeVille

OK guys, don't flog me too bad.
In the process of restoring daughter's '62 DeVille. Need to rebuild the water pump. Has anyone torn one down? The guts APPEAR to be standard GM. The impeller and fan mounting hub are pressed on. Not at all sure as to the procedure. I don't want to screw up the housing as they are hard to find for this model.
I need help, even if it of the non useful type I recieved from SOME members a week or so ago.
TIA

maybe you can get an aftermarket electric WP if problems become too many.
Just a thought?

The key is in re-assembly. Press it all apart, noting the position of the depth of the shaft into the impeller and pulley. Remember that when pressing the shaft into the bearing you MUST support the bearing so the shaft does not push it apart. I use a piece of tubing that just fits the OD of the shaft and is not too thick to mess up the bearing seal. It is a good idea to judge how much pressure it takes to get the pulley back on- sometimes they go back on with very little pressure- not good. Some of the old Continental engines have been done a few times and you could push the pulley on by hand. Have to have a sleeve put in the pulley for a tight fit. Hope this helps Jim
