One Piece Driveshaft Part # Questions
Hey all, With my carrier bearing shot and some u-joints bad also I was considering getting the 1 piece drive shaft but i have some questions on part #'s. I know this one will work from reading the forums here.

I installed the 52123162AA one-piece driveshaft on my 2006 Mega Cab 4x4 6-speed. Yes, it is costly, but I have to say that it was the best thing I could have ever done. The wheel hop is gone, the shudder is gone, the vibrations at a couple different RPM levels as you go through the gears are gone. WELL WORTH the cost.
I don't know anything for sure about the second shaft you have listed, but I believe it is for a standard cab, which is something like 20 or so inches shorter that the QC and MC, and that one may be a steel one???

Pretty sure the cheaper one is for a reg cab or shortbed and would be a one-piece steel shaft for the 06-07 trucks. They didn't start using aluminum shafts and one-piece for all wheelbases until 2008 model year. Did you get your shaft and put it in yet? Wondering how you like it. I am glad I did that to my truck more than anything else.

You can get a one peice alunimum shaft from " Doghouse Diesel Performance" for $495. The shaft is 6 inches in diameter and is a direct bolt in. The AA is for the auto the AB for manual. Doghouse is really good and they know their stuff.

You could actually find either the one piece aluminum OR the two piece steel shafts on two identical MegaCab trucks sitting on the same sales lot. I saw two 2008's side by side at my local dealership, identical in every way except the driveshaft. I have not looked under a QC 4-door longbed to see what's in them, but I believe it is a two piece only because a couple of my friends have 2007's and 2008's with standard trannys and the two piece shafts.
It is probably how they split hairs in the assembly, depends on what they have in stock as a truck goes down the assy line.

I am also tired of the shudder at take-off and now even a little as I am slowing down to a stop, not to mention the howl around 55-70mph. Just had differential serviced, no issues and u-joints looked good. I want to get rid of the carrier bearing and go to a 1-piece driveline. Does anyone know the correct part number for a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4, 5.9 cummins, quad cab, long bed automatic transmission? From the research I did, it looks like 52123220AB may be the right one, but I want to make sure. Thanks in advance.

You will not be sorry for swapping drive shafts. Your truck will drive totally different. Takes about an hour to do the change out. I purchased mine form www.dodgetruckparts.net, call the number on the site and ask for Brian. I think I paid like $476.00 plus $50.00 shipping depending on where you are. It was the best purchase I've made with regards to my truck. That is the correct part number.

Thanks for the responses. I decided to order the aluminum from doghouse diesel performance, I like the sounds of shaving 20# off the driveline. Heard that staying with the steel may be a little heavy for a 1-piece with no middle support. I know guys out there are running the steel 1-piece with no problem, but both drivelines are about the same price, so waiting on the aluminum to get here, unfortunately I live in Alaska, so shipping is almost $100!
