front driveshaft
front driveshaft
Still working out the bugs on my lift, driveshaft shop says my length is good. But, I"m binding on the double U-joint at the transfer case, not on the joints, but on the tabs on the yokes. Talked to skyjacker and they said I should be able to grind them off. They recommended not to use a bigger shim because it will affect the caster too much. Anyone else lifted a first gen and ran into this problem? If you know someone with a lifted first gen please direct them to this post. Thanks

I don't have a lifted dodge, but I did grind the ears on my double cardan on the stock front driveshaft on my blazer. I agree that you don't want to run shims up front as it will affect your road manners.
If your clearance/grind your d/s ears and your front pinion yoke correctly, you can remove the shims that are there, and still have clearance.
I did, and it drives much better. I have 6" of lift on my 79 (same suspension basically as the 1st gens) with NO SHIMS on the front springs.
The shims are why your other posts says it is walking around on you. they change the whole steering geometry.

My grinding worked, I need to do just a touch more at the yoke, its touching but not binding. But, got to playing a little today and I definitely need to extend it. Pulled apart,at the splines, thought I had enough but measured it today and only have about 2 inches. Off to the driveshaft shop for me, atleast it's only the front.
