Results of N.C. Dyno Day

Well our first N.C. Dyno Day went very well! The dyno
participation was far greater than Chris or myself ever
expected. On Friday night we had six (6) trucks that
actually ran with about 10-12 trucks total. Listed below
are the results of the Friday night runs:

Name Type of Truck H.P./Torque

1. Jess (kingd) 03 Chevy Duramax (#2) 484/956
(Nitrous&Prop.) 593/1144

2. John Hornyak 03 Ford PSD (6.0) 346/553

3. Buck Spruill 02 Chevy Duramax (#2) 518/986
(Nitrous&Prop.) 681/1250

4. Joshua Williams 94 Dodge CTD 360/746

5. Tim Barber (Timinva) 00 Dodge CTD 578/1050
(Twin Turbos)

6. Ted Barber 03 Dodge CTD 253/470

(Although many of the members made three runs under
different settings etc., I have listed the "highest run" made
by that truck.)

Today (Saturday) we had an even bigger turnout with
approximately 20-25 trucks in attendance. Out of that
number, we had fourteen trucks that ran on the dyno.
Here are the results of the Saturday Dyno runs:

Name Type of Truck H.P./Torque

1. Chris Dubie 01 Dodge CTD 372/860
(Papa Smurf)

2. John Porterfield, Sr. 02 Dodge CTD 473/921
(John_P)

3. Tom Goodall 03 Dodge CTD 223/415
(Goody's 1Ton)

4. Michael Whitehead 01 Dodge CTD 406/800

5. Calvin Brown 93 Dodge CTD 229/606

6. Leigh Dubie 04 Dodge CTD 235/437
(Mrs. Papa Smurf)

7. Rick Dusch (RickD) 93 Dodge CTD 288/699

8. Robert Peterson 01 Dodge CTD 294/732

9. John Fitzsimmons 03 Dodge CTD 288/584

10. George Tripp 94 Dodge CTD 312/720

11. John Porterfield, Jr. 04 Dodge CTD *Stock* 235/437
(banshee)

12. T.H. Tyson 03 Ford PSD 282/596

13. Brian Buchanan 01 Dodge CTD 217/495

14. Sanders Ford 04 Ford PSD *Stock* 212 H.P.
(Wayne will post torque numbers later. This was
a new truck off their lot supplied to compare
numbers between the Ford, Dodge and Chevy.)

In the dyno events for both days Tim Barber (Timinva)
took the trophy for "Highest Dyno H.P.on #2 Diesel"!
Congratulations Tim! I made a mistake in not getting
another trophy for "Highest Dyno H.P. #2 (Plus)"
for added nitrous and or propane. For that I apologize
to Buck Spruill who had the Highest Dyno H.P. with
#2 plus nitrous and propane at 681 H.P.!!! Congratulations
to you also Buck! Chris Dubie and myself will be sending
a trophy to Buck this next week!

Note: The *stock* trucks were new and supplied by
the dealers as a "comparison" between Dodge, Ford and
Chevy. However, "Marine Chevrolet" failed to bring out
an 04' Chevy Duramax for us to test. The Dodge won the
stock truck shootout against the Ford with a H.P. advantage
of 235 from the Cummins to 212 from the 6.0 Powerstroke.

After the dyno runs, everyone headed out to "Coastal
Plains Dragway" to run their trucks. Twenty (20) trucks
registered to "test and tune" and then bracket race.
Buck Spruill took the top honors and trophy for this
event with several runs in the low 12's at over 110 MPH!
Congratulations Buck!!

I did not get everyones times at this part of the event
as I was cooking hamburgers with Chris!! [laugh]
I will let everyone post their times if they want to.
My "new" 2002 Dodge CTD, Auto (signature below)
had a best for the day of: 12.94 @ 102.98!!! This
was on #2 diesel only. This beats the time of my
96' Dodge CTD, Auto ("Red Ram Rocket") by over
3/10ths of a second!!

My sincere thanks to everyone who attended this
event! It was good to see old faces again and to meet
new people! My thanks also to Wayne at "Waynes
Dyno and Performance" for having us, to National
Dodge for supplying the trophies, to Gary at "Coastal
Plains Dragway" for opening the track for us.
I also want to thank my "partners" in this event;
Chris and Leigh Dubie for all the financial and "hands-
on assistance!" Couldn't have done it without you
Chris and Leigh! ;) Lastly, thanks to my son John
Jr., Tim Barber, Shawn Fuchs who helped us at the
dyno event and at the dragstrip!! If I forgot anyone
I apologize!! I already did! ::) Jess........ thank you for
originally planting the "seed" for this event!

Thanks to all, I had a blast being the first time I had the opportunity to run on a dyno. I wish I would have made the track, much funner then watching a Santa Claus hand out presents at a holiday party. I am looking forward to the next event, this time I will have more time to hang out and chat. With a six week old, spare time is some what valuable :).

I sure wish I could have made it down...... :-[ Hopefully next year the truck Gods will be a little more forgiving of my tuning. Looks like it was a GREAT event. Congratulations to all of the participants. Another thing is a big "Thank You" should go out to John Porterfield and Chris Dubie for all the work they put into making this event happen.

Mrs Smurf here,

Just a quick note I started a photo album called Eastern NC 1st Diesel Shoot Out. Didn't get a chance to take too many photo's.

I think everyone had a great time. Glad to be meet everyone and attach names to faces. Minus the cool winds picking up near the end.

Mom and Son, had a great time. Not that often we can things together. The little Ford surprised a few folks, even the mastermind behind buying the little four cylinder!

See ya later,

Leigh

I think everyone had a great time. George even made the trip down from Canada to dyno. It was good to see everyone again and watch Johns truck get into the 12s. How bout that duramax in the 12.4 range it was pretty impressive. Wish I could have raced maybe next time. Great job to all that helped put this event together. Tim

Re:Results of N.C. Dyno Day

Thanks for a GREAT time! ;D

To the Smurfs, John P., Wayne, Gary, Jess and everyone who helped make this event happen,,,, I had a good time, as I think everyone did also. My drag racing skills still need a bunch of improvement but at least I can say (probably for the one and only time I'll get the chance,,,)
"My truck was faster than Johnner's (Banshee) truck,,,,,,,,My truck was faster than Johnner's truck,,,,,,,,My truck was faster than Johnner's truck,,,," ;D [laugh] ,,,,OK,,,,, so it was my auto with an EZ against his new stock 6 speed,,, ::) BUT,,,,,My truck was faster than Johnner's truck!
Oh yeah,,,,,, Thanks to the Smurf's,,,,,,,,, RATTLINRAM is no longer stock,,,,,,,, The EZ sure wakes things up,,,,,,,, it made for a real fun drive back home! ;D
Sure hope Joel (Dieseldude4x4) makes it home OK after FRYING his clutch at the drags! :o ,,,,,,, he was needing a good excuse to put a new clutch in anyway. ::) Thanks to Rick D. for the tour of the VA/NC back roads on the way down there.

Great event and looking forward to the next one. ;D
*Note: To all you guys who like to pick on the Duramaxes,,,,,,, be very, very careful when picking on any in NC. ::) :o [laugh]

[glow=red,2,300] I had a great time[/glow] ... nice to see everyone again. It was a thrill to finally get on the dyno ;D ;D ;D. When we got home, my 4 year old daughter told my wife; " All the trucks were loud ... just like my daddy's. They had a lot of black smoke too".

Re:Results of N.C. Dyno Day

We had a great time.
Watching my son (16years old) putting the hurt on us big boys did me well. He got beat by Charle the winner of the event in the third round.
I to would like to thank everyone for coming down/over and up for our event.
Jess and Buck
I have been to more than a few Diesel events and I have never seen a Durmax come even close to the performance of your trucks.
I am glad that you came down for this event and hope to see you in future events.

It was alot of fun seeing ole friends and meeting new ones.
I to wish to thank John, John Jr, Wayne, Joel, Jess and Gary for making this happen.
See Ya
Chris
