The DTR wheeling trip, lets start planning

Where we going...Rausch Creek is sweet for those with the better built rigs that like rocks, but there is also a place with some slightly easier trails in Va. called The Cove, and this place has a shooting range that you can wheel too, and then blow stuff up if you like. I also have a house about 35-40 minutes from this place that we can camp at, and stay over night if anyone is interested.

Either way I'll take my unlocked cherokee-"strappy" and see how it does.

Also note that this can't interfere with pulling season so it has to be before April 5th or pick a weekend when there is no pulls going on

Scott, how soon will you have your jeep ready?

Also, I will be bringing at least 2 people with me, both in TJ's one is fully locked on 35's the other is budget boosted on 33's

Not sure if you are looking for a wheeler only or a wheeler DD but there are some cheap lifted cherokees being sold lately

I'm up for it. TJ tell you what, if I get my XJ D44 installed by the time we go, we can throw my Powertrax No slip in you Dana 35 ( or do you have the 8.25). Its stuck fully locked and will not unlock. But to just go wheel it will be perfect. I drive with it everyday on my YJ.

TJ what year is your Cherokee, I think it is old enough that it should be a Dana 35. Easy way to tell, look underneath, if the cover is oval it's a 8.25 Chrysler, if it is trapaziodal it's a Dana. You know what a Dana cover looks like they are all the same shape, just different sizes for different axles.

Pretty sure I am gonna buy that Sammy from Glen. It's an 86 so I can tag it historic, no emissions test, no inspection.

The Cove campground is only open to wheeling when the Bid Dogs Off road have their events. B4W used to wheel there and there isn't very many easy trails. + Rausch Creek is closer.
As soon as Mark gets me the sheet metal i can finish the fenders, then a few more things to tweak. It's never done and when it is it's for sale, which is never.

The Cove is open year round for wheeling, and they have easy trails because i know some guys who went with a ranger on 31's and an Xterra and they made it through the easier trails without a problem

I wouldn't bother with a Dana 35. Get a Ford 8.8, Dana 44, or at the very least an 8.25 out of a newer XJ. Lunch box lockers (drop ins) are cheep but just don't work as nice in a lighter vehicle that is a daily driver. Power Trax LockRight is dirt cheap and has been working nicely in my K5 Blazer though.

I think you got the mixed up. The D35 is perfectly oval, where as the 8.25 cover looks like a "slotted hole" (the top and bottom of the pan are flat and parrellel.

If you have a 87-89 4.0 with factory hitch you could possibly have a Dana 44 (non c-clip). It looks like a miniature Dana 60.

Brad the shoeless one was right had it backwards. 8.25 on the left D35 on the right: http://www.rocklizardfabrications.co...25_Picture.jpg
The D35 is the only Dana axle that doesn't use the Dana shaped cover.

i believe i have the 8.25 then in my 96 by looking at the pic.

an 8.8, 44, or something would be nice, but you have to understand, this is something that might see a trail 2x a year, and is more along the lines of a DD for when my truck is broken during pulling season. i am not looking to spend a bunch of money modding it. i'd lincoln lock it if i wasn't driving it much either!

Man, I'd love to go, but my XJ's not road worth anymore. It's been sitting to long and I've got a TCase and front axle leak.
