89 ctd starting problems
I'm in rockville MD and can't get My ctd to start after I removed the IP to re-seal it and put it right back.
Anyone near Me with timing tools or more knowledge than Me about how to start it? Thank You. |

No, I used the same pump and didn't disturb the shaft. I just replaced a few seal's and put it back.
|
If you didn't turn the pump at all, then it should be OK. If the shaft was disturbed, it could be 180* out of timing. IN any case, they can be a major pain in the butt to prime. Where exactly are you in Rockville? I know the area pretty well.
|
I'm close to the intersection of Veirs Mill rd and Norbeck rd.
|
gotcha. :D Well, as mentioned, if the pump shaft was not disturbed it should have gone right back in since the shaft is keyed. The only other thing it could be is air. How long have you tried bleeding it? What process did you use?
|
Did you plug in the shut down solenoid when you were done?
|
I crancked it until fuel came out at all the injector lines, then cranked several times but it does not even puff smoke.
I removed the plunger at the solenoid to eliminate this option. |
Does anyone have a picture or know how to align the marks on the cam and IP gear?
Thank You. |
It's not that easy as just aligning up the marks. Looks like your timing will have to be reset. We have a timing set in the Cave that i don't know how to use, if you can get your truck up to Kingsville we might be able to help. But the Cave is only available to Chapter members. So it looks like you need to join!
Or you can call that shop in Glen Burnie and see if they do 12v timing. Also you might want to start a thread over here https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...play.php?f=100 Might get more help |
i wanna see the timing kit work on a ve pump LOL
|
Dang it i missed that one. [duhhh]
So go post your problem in the 12 Valve section. There are quiet a few VE pump experts in there.[coffee] |
Thank You guys, the gurus have not shown up yet or the might be as stumped as I am. Thank You for the info.
|
we could stare at it for another 5 hours and see what happens
