First Post

Hello,
This is my first post. I have a 1995 Dodge 2500 4x4 ext.cab with a broken drive train. Was in the throttle 3/4 on monday and something broke. Left me with a growl and no forward or reverse gears working. It is in the Transmission shop for eval.
I wondrr if i should replace the tranny with a 5 spd manual or have it rebuilt, asssuming it is the tranny, and not the transfer case that is broken.

Has anyone here done this? How involved will it be?

Welcome to DTR!!

Sounds like a possible input shaft in the trans. If it lets loose, it can take out the whole transmission.

Welcome to the DTR!

Wait to see what the shop has to say regarding what exactly let loose.

As far as switching over to a stick...

It can be done, but is it worth it to you?

Trany Switch

Magacabdad,
I should hear something on Monday. Any idea what it will take to switch it over? I rode in a budies truck, hauling mine 40 miles to the shop, and was impressed with the standard transmission.

I think you would need a donor truck to swap everything over from...

It may be better to fix and sell what you got and buy a standard.

Or...

If it is your trans., have an aftermarket company build you an auto that should hold up to whatever you can throw at it.

Welcome to the website. Sorry to hear about what happened to your truck.
Go into the 12 Valve Engine and Drivetrain Section and post up there what happened. The Members there can help you. Also, do a Search on transmission swaps and that should help you also.
