I am on my 8th Dodge diesel now. I have had a 94, 96, 98, 01, 03, 05, 08 and back to a 1997. All of them 4x4's with manuel transmission and all stock. I put over 100,000 of hard miles on all of them except the 08. I enjoyed all except the 2008. Had lots of engine problems with my 08. It wasn't because i didn't work it. I worked the 08 hard and still lots of sooting problems plus fuel dilution of oil. I still owed money on it and could see me still owing more than it was worth when it went over 100,000. My mechanic suggested getting rid of it. In the meantime i had found a 97 with only 112,000 miles by a one owner guy i knew. The economy hit him hard and he needed to raise some cash. He uses the same mechanic i use and changed oil every 3000 miles. Just before i bought it the previous owner had the mechanic i use add 215 hp injectors, #6 plate and 4 inch exhaust with gauges. I took a beating on the sale of the 08 with only 40k plus miles but am glad to be rid of it. I miss the power but not the problems.

I have 3000 miles on this oil change and its almost clear. Previous to this truck my favorite of all had been my 96. This is now my favorite. Runs great, and is paid for. I have never had an automatic before but its what it has and i have grown to accept it.

I was a TDR reader for years but i guess i have gotten too cheap to subscribe to them. I really appreciate all the information here.

 

I know what your sayin new trucks are nice but i love my 06 5.9 and i'm going to drive it tell the wheels fall off. b/c i will never have a 6.7 or any of that epa diesel crap.

Glad to hear you are happy with that 97' you got. Like you, my 1996 Dodge CTD has been the BEST Dodge CTD Pickup I have ever owned, hands down! I haven't owned quite as many as you. I am up to four (4) now.
