It would help to know what year truck you have and what engine. If it's a 12V (pre 1998.5) you need to loosen the bleed screw on the top of the fuel filter housing and push the primer button on the pump located below the filter on the block untill you see fuel coming out the bleed screw. Then tighten the screw back up.

Next loosen the front #1 injector line a little and crank the truck untill you see fuel coming out of the line. Tighten the line back up and you should be able to start.

Click the search icon at the top of the page and search for more info on this procedure. There are alot of posts with the information and some even have pictures if I remember correctly.

Try this.

Loosen the lid to the fuel filter.
Bump starter (don't crank though).
Immediatly run around door and tighten lid when fuel starts to come out.

Try starting again.
If doesn't start, hold pedal to floor (as if starting a flooded gas engine).

If it starts it will run very rough, needing pedal massaging till it evens out.

If this doesn't work, come back and we'll try the next step.

edit: the next step would be what was mentioned in above post, cracking injector lines, but we don't need to go that far yet.

If you're not getting any fuel into the filter cannister, then you have a dead lift pump.

Should be covered under warranty, unless you're over 100,000 miles.

It was cutting out on me recently when I would really nail it. Does this sound like something? And where is the lift pump?

Lift pump is located on the side of the motor above the starter. The lift pump is dead for sure and if you have been driving it like that for awile then the injection pump might be junk as well. If its still under warranty I would fill the fuel canister with fresh fuel manually to get it going and drop it off at the dealer for the stumble that is has.

Good Luck

alright, I filled the canister with fuel and it still won't start. Is this thing ever going to start or am I going to have it towed?

Without the lift pump to get the air out of the system, I don't think you'll get it started.

OK, I finally got fuel to come out of the filter bowl. I saw a post from a while ago that said one guy had to do that about 20 times. So anyway, I have fuel coming out of the filter bowl, everything is tightened down. I held it to the floor and it did not even attempt to start so what's next, something about an injector?

I loosened the #1 and #3 injectors. I got fuel out of #3 but not number 1. My batteries are running low and I have no way to charge them. I can't keep doing this.

Are you sure that your fuel cut-off selnoid(sp?) is open? To check, bump the starter and leave the key in run position and the selnoid should be pulled in. The selnoid is right beside the afc housing, pointed down with a rubber boot on it. Look at it before you bump the starter so you can see the difference. If its not functioning, thats your problem.
