smoke

Is it pure white? Or black with white haze?

Have you checked your oil for water/anti freeze?

Is there oil in you radiator?

This has happend to me twice, and both instances has been injectors.

The first it would bellow pure white smoke under acceleration.

Second instance it would produce a decent amount of white/greyish smoke at idle.

Crack one injector line at the head, one at a time while truck is running. If motor idles down that is normal. If it does not change the idle it could be a bad injector in that hole.

sometimes, not most of the time. i had a fuel leak on my truck and over night when it would lose fuel prime, it would smoke white while i was crankin it till it started. after that initial start, everything was fine.

This doesn't apply to HPCR Cummins right? Cracking the lines on a running 3rd gen seems like a BAD idea.

If you haven't changed the air filter lately try that, a stopped up air filter will make it smoke white.

What would you do then unplug the injector?

I'd go to the dealer and let him do a cylinder cutout test with the drb tool.

Thanks for the replys I will take it in for a cut out test...

I am getting a P 0016 code "error has been deteted for cam shaft out of phase with crank shaft" Is this a sensor or do I have to adjust the timing?

Sounds like a ground problem or connector problem to me- but I'm no expert on the CR Cummins. Did you do the tone wheel mod?
