used abs module. need tech help
i need to know from an experienced tech on this issue. If you do not know for sure, please do not respond as i am not interested in guesses.
MY abs module went out so i got a used one from a salvage yard. I am getting conflicting info as whether i can use this module or not. I know the vin is burnt into each module and cant be done again, but can it be reprogrammed with my trucks parameters? Are there any problems i will run into? Thanks

The ABS (Automatic/Antilock Braking System) module is not unique to each truck, it is a generic part by model, year and axle capacity, and fully interchangeable as long as the part and version numbers match those on your ABS module. There will be a label on the replacement part that has what looks to be a bar code and series of numbers, make sure they match yours. If the label is missing from either, then chat with your dealer's parts guys and get a part number from them and compare it to the new (used) module.
The VIN is not in the ABS module.

one the module, one set of numbers is identical and the other set i believe is different. do both sets need to be the same? I had one dealer tell me a used one couldnt be reprogrammed for my truck and i needed other modules of the other truck to make it all work right. I had another dealer tell me this used module could be reprogrammed but some flashes done to the old truck and my truck might affect things. Any ideas on what they mean by this or if it is correct? thanks much for the help
