Truck will not start After LP Replacement

Hi guys.....replaced the dead LP with a Holley Black mounted @ frame rail, lines with 3/8" rubber line.

I have 20-25psi on my f/p guage.....

Tried to bleed the injectors, #1 & #3......some fuel came out of #1 but nothing out of #3

Any help here?

Is too high of a fuel press triggering something stopping the Injection pump from pumping?

You have introduced air into the system, you will have to bleed all injectors. Start with 1,3,and 5. If it starts quickly tighten these back up. It will run rough for a minute, but should self bleed the others out.

Bump the starter and let the lift pump run for twenty seconds. Then do it again . Tighten injector lines and then get in push pedal to floor and start to crank the motor. If it does not start within 15 seconds stop cranking and let starter cool for a minute then crank again for another 15 seconds.

I was taught to crack 3 lines, crank it over, and when it starts then tighten the three lines that were cracked open. Then it will smooth out after 30 seconds to a minute.

I just installed vulcan big line kit and moved pump to the frame and it took two cycles of the lift pump and then started cranking and she fired up. I never had to crack the injector lines.

You might have been to low on battery power to get it started. As you know, you need good batteries when tring to get it started. Charge them overnight, then try starting tomorrow. Also are you hearing the lift pump run for twenty seconds when you bump the starter. I noticed you high fuel pressure readings in the post. Just a notice, that some trucks do get a hard start condition from high fuel pressures, but i dont know much on that area. Maybe someone else will chime in with a good solution.

Yup i hear the new lift pump (Holley Black) prime for 20secs......if i have to, i can use a regulator inline....i have a few anyhow.

The batteries were fairly weak, motor was turning over nearly as fast as before.

The F/P is definetly around the 20/25 mark....my guage only goes up to 15 9from my car).....i've got another one that goes up to 80, will test that out tommorrow.

OH FORGOT TO MENTION! WHEN I CONNECTED THE PUMP, I CONNECTED THE LINES BACKWARDS....SO OUTLET TO INLET/INLET TO OUT....I PRIMED IT ABOUT 4 TIMES BEFORE I REALIZED & DOUBLE CHECKED WHAT I HAD DONE....COULD I HAVE SUCKED THE WHOLE SYSTEM DRY BY ACCIDENT? IS THIS WHY ITS NOW EXTRA HARD TO START THE TRUCK???

Since you put the pump in backwards, i would loosen the fuel line on the output of the fuel filter, bump starter when you see fuel tighten up. Then bump starter again. Then attempt to start with pedal to floor. You might have to crank 3 or 4 15 second intervals before it will start. Remember to let the starter cool between starting attempts. Good luck.

If you have a VP44 injection pump, check the overflow valve to be sure it is still working after being pulled on backwards by the Holley pump. Those valves are a bit fragile and will jamb in the shut position if pulled on, and then you will never prime. The overflow valve on the VP44 is right beside the fuel feed line and is connected to the return line.

Well got her all done......fired up almost right away, i crack the #1, 3 & 5 lines....turned her over & it fired......so i tightened them up & it fired right up.

Fuel Pressure is 26-28 at idle, 16-18 at WOT.......is that ok?

Holley Black pump, unregulated.

As long as you do not experience hard start issues, you should be fine. Glad tp hear you got it running again.
