Tranny Fluid
As i have posted before my service guy put the wrong tranny fluid in my transmission. he added ATF+3 to my fluid and it takes +4. he only dropped the pan and then added 6-7 quarts of atf+3. a guy at an auto parts store tried to sell me some additive that i could add to my tranny that would turn the atf+3 into atf+4. will this work or will this not help at all. ive also talked to some shops about flushing my whole transmission out and refilling it and they said they use an atf+3 and add an additive to make it to +4... with the most fluid thats already in my tranny which is +4 will an additive hurt the +4 fluid while making the +3 better or somthing? if i can get by with just adding an additive i would love to do so. any one know of a good additive to use for my situation??? thanks very much!

I know LubeGard additive will make Dexron III atf have the same properties as ATF +3 but don't know about +4.

Chrysler recommends ATF +4 oil, whether some of us like to believe it or not they have spent more time and money researching what works best with their transmission than anybody else. They recommend ATF +4 to control the shift feel. Just because they recommend ATF +4 does not mean to hae to get it from them, you can buy it from automotive outlets as long as it meets their ATF +4 specifications.
Having said that we work mostly on high performance trucks rams and guys towing pretty heavy loads.
In our won personal shop we use Dexron Mercron oil because its lts less likely to slip compared to the atf + 4 that Chrysler reccommends.
The reason why Chrysler does not want you to use the GM oil is because it may cause TC shudder.
As far as recommending particular brands,i dont usually get into to that too much. But from feed back i have gotten from my customers a lot of them run amzoil and are very happy with it.
Personally we do use motor oil in our RACECAR TRANSMISSIONS and we are presently testing motor oil in some of our DODGE Diesels. Too soon to comment on the results in the diesels but the race car really likes it.
But then our race car tranny we service every 4 miles. I dont thinkyou want to do that. We are working on getting a motor oil sponsor ( lol )
