Surging While Driving
Surging While Driving
My girlfriend is now driving the truck in my signature. It was a little chilly last night (-10F) and she had a hell of a time getting it started today. Once started, using the block heater and battery charger, she let it warm up for a five minutes and started driving. She reports that the engine will "rev up" and "has no power". The Attitude monitor says fuel pressure, boost, and egt's are all in spec. The monitor is however indicating an erratic vehicle speed.
Please give me your diagnosis of this situation. I have my thoughts, but want to get an unbiased opinion.
Thanks in advance,
Sean

The only thing that came to mind was that the VSS, mounted at the rear of the trans, was too cold to function. I thought that maybe this was telling the converter to unlock, hence the "revving up".
Apparently as the rig warmed up, the problem lessened. I also had her turn the Edge down to stock. I'm not sure if that contributed to alleviating the problem, but I didn't want her driving around running a 100HP tune if the truck "ran away".
I was thinking fuel gelling issues right away, but the fuel pressure (measured at the IP) was good. Not sure what the problem is/was, but it will be plugged in from now on.
