****2003 Dodge 2500 4x4 5.9L Cummins Automatic*****

About 5 months ago my truck started to act up.

*one day I'll get great mileage and the next it will be through the floor.

*Whatever is goin on is causing my transmission to freak out and it doesn't shift right at all (automatic)

*Engine lopes horribly!!It sounds as if the rpms are surging, but the rpm don't move unless you let it idle long enough..

*loss of power

*replaced TPS which is a huge mechanical throttle unit with the linkage and all..THOUGHT THAT WAS IT..WASNT!

*no codes!!

*replace fuel filter 3 times since this started, changed the air filter once

*run white and grey power service, mystery oil, atf..something at every fill up

*straight piped

* had a diesel shop, power shop, dodge dealership, and regular shop all diagnosis it and say nothing is wrong with it...they say all the fuel pressures are fine,boost is fine, and fuel sample is fine..

NO ONE CAN FIGURE THE PROBLEM OUT!!! WHILE I AM FORCED BEACUSE IT'S MY DAILY DRIVER TO DRIVE IT 50 MILES A DAY TO WORK AND BACK!!!! I'VE WASTED SO MUCH MONEY ON DIAGNOSIS AND THINGS THAT HAVEN'T FIXED MY PROBLEM.. I CANT KEEP DOING THIS..SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!

are you buying fuel from same station? fuel could still be within specs, but have less quality

check grounds

 

Wanna sell your truck? There has got to be some better explanations of what is wrong. Have someone else drive it and see what they say... I'll give you $15,000 and drive away with your problems...

 

First off......don't even look at the overhead. They are not even close. Hand calculate your mileage only. Second......what is your idea of "bad" mileage? Winter fuel causes me to lose at least 2 mpg.

 

Did you see the post by Bad Ramer Jamer about the frayed wires by the AC condensor. Sounds alot like what you are experiencing. Do a search under wiring.

 

another good point as far as the winter fuel causing less MPGs

 

i've had shop after shop after shop look at it they drive it test it know something's wrong and can't figure it out... no way about selling it..lol..that's the easy way out.. i love this truck!

 

i get my fuel from a flying j truck stop...best diesel in the state.. people drive from allover to get there diesel from there..

 

i dont i used to get by hand 22..now i get 16..lol...

 

Have you verified the wires that may short out down by the compressor as was mentioned ealier? Could be a valid source.

 

you might check all the grounds, that almost sounds like a loose ground somewhere.

 

The wires by the a/c compressor will most definately cause a code. Keep an eye on the oil level, there may be a bad injector, also.....any leaks anywhere?

 

My truck acts like that every so often. Usually I run a good injector cleaner (Schaeffer's fuel additive) and very high concentrated and usually fixes it. That particular additive also adds lubrication to the drier fuels. I notice when it starts to run like this my boost remains at 5 psi. Also, does your truck smoke more when it runs like this?

 

do you have an exhaust brake?

 

NO I DONT HAVE ONE
