she just died while plowing.

03 w 50k. While plowing it was running perfectly and then just stopped running. Cranks over fine, but the fuel and battery gauge does not do a thing when I try to start it. I know that is not normal. Any ideas would be great. And it has a 7/8 full tank and it was running for a few hours before it shut off, so prob not gelling. Thanks

Since the pumps are more reliable than the second gens, MY gues, and it will be a guess, is that a sensor or ECM crapped out. Possibly a crank sensor? I do wish I could tell you how to determine one of the other.
Isn't it still under warranty?

Chris

Yeah it's under warranty supposedly. But every time I bring it in for warranty work they tell me that part is not covered. So I woulld like to maybe figure it out myself. My dealer sucks and does not stand behind their customers. I have to call crysler direct to get anything done. Thanks.

did you check for codes? just a guess, but if you were plowing snow, you might check the crankshaft position sensor, it is pretty low on the engine, might have pushed snow up against it

Yeah I checked all the connections like that. I didn't know about the codes and had it towed to the dealer where it has just sat for 2 days. I think there diesel guy called out for a few days. I'll just bend over now and wait my turn. Thanks for the ideas.

this is what mine did

my 2002 3500 just died full tank of fuel,no gelling issues, turns out it was my ECU engine control unit. My local dealer covered it under the 100,000mi engine warranty. good luck

It's at the dealer right now, and they have 15 hours diagnosing it. I'm getting scared of this bill. They think it is a wiring harness because they cannot get codes out of it. There is no connection between the comp and where you plug diagnostic equip. If it is the ecu would any of this make sense? And should a wire harness go bad w/50k on it? I must say my confidence with this vehicle is gone. I already had to replece the whole steering unit. Pump and box. Lost brakes and steering while towing 12k. Almost hit a few cars. nice huh. Let me know if any of this is like your sit. Thanks.

As long as there are no bombs, why would you be scared of the bill? Shouldn't it be covered under warranty? If this place is always giving you the runaround, I'd be finding a new dealer. Dad took his truck to the nearest dealer, where he did not buy the truck from, and they did $250 worth of warranty work without the runaround.

It has 51k therefore it is out of the 36k warranty. I'm effed at this point. There looking for a needle in a haystack at this point and it is costing me money. Thanks for the input. If I realized that it was out of warranty I'd have taken it to a family member who is good w/diesels.
