Rough Idle, need help

I need some help with a rough idle problem.
I have a 2001 Ram 2500, no mods except fuel pressure light. 79,680 miles.

The truck was near empty so I put in a half tank of diesel. The truck died about a half mile down the road. It would just turn over and not catch. I cracked a injector line and managed to get the truck to start.

Nursed the truck home, but running real rough.

I let the truck sit over night. Started next day and it blew a lot of white smoke for a few minutes and then idled normal. I replaced the fuel filter, added diesel kleen and filled the tank.

Now when I drive it, the truck runs fine when cold. When it warms up it has a strange rpm surge. It surges after driving for awhile. It usually happens when I take my foot off the accelerator and coast. The idle will surge until I stop and then it will return to normal. Once in a while it will die when I stop. It is also easy to start when cold and cranks longer to start when warm.

Any ideas what is going on with the truck? I am suppose to tow our boat over the Cascades on Sunday, so I am trying to figure this out before I leave.

Thanks

Bad tank of diesel?

Best I have, I would drive the bejesus out of it and run that 1/2 tank down, then try from another supplier.

Our you sure you put diesel in tank and not gasolene? I have seen that mistake many times before. Smell the fuel or drain some out and if it burns when lit it's not 100% diesel
