Remote Keyless Entry transmitters
Is the place to purchase them the dealer, 'cause they will have to program them?
My truck had an after market keyless entry system. I trashed it. The previous owner installed the cheapo system 'cause he didn't want to pay the dealer his fees. The truck has the factory RKE installed, I just do not have any transmitters.
Local dealer wants $30 to program the transmitters, but I did not ask him if I had to purchase them from him. How would you handle this situation? Thanks. len

I looked into it for mine, which lists RKE on the build sheet but the keyfobs are all lost by the previous owner. The dealer quoted me $50 per fob and $49 to program whatever many you buy from him. I decided that for $100 I can open the door with a key for now...

If you don't have the origionals now , you will need to buy at least one from the dealer , and have them program it , after that, you can do as many as you want on your own. Someone will chime in with the FOB programming details.

I called the local dealer this morning and again this afternoon. Parts folks said $42.50 each for FOB (in the AM) and $63.05 each and no charge for programing(in the PM).
So depending on the mood of the parts dept. 2ea. FOB's and programing is $126.10, or $115.00

What about www.magauto.com 03 to 06 for 27.00 bucks.
The 2000 to 2002 are 30 bucks.
I lost one of mine. You have to be careful- is it the square one, or the weird shape one, like the infinity sign (sort of)?
I have the square ones, and I think it was about 42.00 (although I haven't bought it yet).
I will look for the part number, and let you know.

I bought one off ebay today. you could try there too. Also if you have 1 already you can program the new ones yourself. If not then you gotta take it to the dealer. A lot of places get testy or wont do the work if you dont purchase the parts from them. So if you find a cheap new or used one just fib to the dealer and tell them it used to work fine and make some excuse why it doesnt now.
Like? I was tinkering with it and now it wont work. Or I changed the battery in this and now it wont work

I have no factory transmitters, so I have to start at the dealer.
I had to give them the last 6 digits of the VIN to get the correct transmitter. My last digits happen to be: 223422. Parts indicated I needed the number 56045497AB which is stamped on the back in writing so small I needed a magnifying lens to see it clearly!!
I had them order 2ea. in, so I'll know the final tally next Tue or Wed whenever they call.
As much as it pains me to spend that kind of money to lock/unlock a door quickly, I have to rationalize it by realizing I get that cleaning one parking area (of snow) which takes less then 45 minutes.
