Rear wheel speed sensor won't go in

Hello guys, I had a rear wheel speed sensor on my 99 ram 2500 4x4 with ABS that went out on me. While I was trying to get the old one out it broke. I finally fished the pieces out and now the new one won't go in. It is just too tight of a fit. Is there anything I need to look out for here? Is there anything that must be aligned a certain way? I don't want to hammer this thing in and risk breaking it. What can I do to get this thing in? Thanks in advance.

clean the hole out good, use a round wire brush to get the crud loose, then lube up the o ring with oil or silicone grease and it should go in.
Bigger hammers will get the job done quicker, but the results may not be what you want in this particular case.
