No starter power

My girlfriend has my truck up north and she said she started it and noticed she had no ac or speedo but all the other gauges worked so then she shut it off but now it won't turn over and all it does is click the fuel shut off solenoid. She says the radio still works. Any ideas?

click click is most often as a result of starter contacts or a bad connection at the batteries or starter...speedo loss and cruise loss is a bad speed sensor located on top of the rear axle

Unless she is a lot UNLIKE my wife, it will probably be something beyond her capabilities. Tell her to turn the lights on and try to crank it. Do the lights dim? That would be an indicator that the alt died and the batteries are now weak. If not, check the fuse under the hood for the starter. There is a TSB for them blowing. The a/c and speedo has me a little puzzled though........ may or may not be related?

The only clicking is coming from the solenoid. The starter doesn't make a sound

Ok I checked all the fuses and, blower fuse is dead, abs/rwal is dead. Not blown just no power to them. When I short it out to start it the abs light stays on. ?????

Sounds like a burned up ignition switch. There was a recall on those IIRC. They replace the ign. switch if necessary, a new harness for the ign. sw. and also add a realy for the blower motor to take the load off of the ign. sw. Take the lower cover off of the steering column and see if you have some burned wiring. Sure sounds like most of them I've seen!

You've got a short some place. The dealer can probably trace it in a jiffy. For something like this I'd definately take it to a competent dealer so they won't be replacing parts just to see if it fixes it. Small shops are bad about this.

When my fuse box fried in my 04 it did some weird things. Truck started, ran, some guages didn't work, odometer was dead, the A/C didn't work I think and I can't remember if the radio didn't work. Dealer out and out said that I had to have hooked something up to the cigarette lighter port like an inverter or something... I blatently never did such a thing luckily they didn't argue and fixed it. I think my cig lighter must have been pushed in and didn't pop out or something. Even telling them this they wouldn't replace the lighter kinda stupid if you ask me.

If you've installed any components aftermarket that required them to be hooked into the electrical system I'd go back through and double check all your wires and connections. Then trace from there if you can't figure it out.

Otherwise tow it to the dealer...

I know on the third gens there is a wire that runs to the starter that is placed in a poor location and it rubs through causing a short. It is located up on the driver's side firewall and runs down to the starter. Wire is yellow. Don't know about the second gen.

Sounds to me that the same power wire that feeds the starter is not feeding any power to the fuse box or the ign. switch. I would bet if you find the starter problem (should be a big red wire) you will more than likely find all of the problems.

Starter had power. I found the problem. I pulled apart the fuse box and the wire to the ignition fuse was broke
