No Power Steering No Brakes

started up the truck tonight and there's no power steering and weak brakes. and when you turn the wheel and push on the brake pedal it whines real bad. opened up the cap and its all frothy and bubbly and full to the top. what's the cause of this. its below freezing here and i assume that's part of it but there's more to it.

what's goin on here people, it's not my truck and i need to get it out of here tonight.

i had the same troubles in below freezing temps - the conventional ps fluid is too viscous (thick) at those temps.

i tried flushing and replacing - no good, same thing again.

then i flushed and replaced with synthetic fluid - been great ever since, seems to have fixed the problem.

it must be a common problem because the calgary dealerships sell cold weather ps fluid - don't know if it is synthetic or not. i believe i used valvoline ps synthetic. i also keep a part full bottle in the bed - just in case, but it has been untouched for over a year now.

p.s. - do not replace the pump before trying this, i almost made that mistake and then thought of synthetic.

hope this helps
