Hi Boys. On my way over the grape vine to pick up my trailer the engine stumbled and the trans came out of overdrive. Now she won't shift and the engine light is on.

Did your truck start running OK after the stumble or is it still not right? We need a lttile more info. Give us the full profile so we can see what you have.

What are you driving, is it a Ford?

 

No I'm sorry it's a dodge 3500 with a 24 valve in it. Auto trans.

 

It seems to be normally too late when it happens, but did you get a transmission overheat light? Or better, do you have a actual temp gauge installed?

 

Ok I'm a little more settled now I'm stuck on the side of the freeway with simis running past me get me a little nervous. The truck is a 1998 dodge 3500 DRW she has an auto trans. The egine is running fine but I'm stuck in drive with no overdrive. So I can only do about 45 mph. She has a 410 RE.

No Over heat light but the check engine light is on. She was only runing for 14 miles when it happened.

Not too many things you can check on the side of the road. Possible could be the speed sensor which for your truck I believe is located on the rear axle. It may have a dirty connector or bad connection. The only other thing to check would be the fluid. Correct level, not burnt. Somebody else will probably jump in with some other suggestions.

I tied reading codes but there were none. The fluid level is righ on the money and clean. I will check the speed sensor now.

 

Try this, disconnect the batteries for 20-30 minutes, then reconnect and start it .
Now see if it will go.

Ok the truck only has 3 and 4th gear and the over drive button doesn't work at all. Took out a few relays and tried swithcing them around. Still nothing but off freeway.
