Do you have lights? anything electrical? If not, check the connections coming off the battery including the fusible links. If you have power to everything but the engine wont start, check the connection at teh Fuel Shut Off Soliniod, and teh wiring between teh starter and starter relay...

Check the fusible links. They are located in the main wiring harness under the hood, between the battery and the driver side hood hinge. They are actually tie-strapped to the outside of the harness. Give each one a little tug to see if it stretches, because the wiring can melt and sever, but leave the insulation intact.

well it sounds like ( if you heard somethign fry under the hood) that it is time to start tracing wires. Start a the fuse panel and just follow each wire to the ignition system looking for burnt insulation or breaks.
Be sure to check the fuse block itself and make sure you dont have a short across there.
Anything like that tho should have blown a fuse.......
IF it fryed enoug for you to hear it, you may be able to smell a burnt smell from teh area wher you have a problem.

Good luck!, its not a fun job

BTW, is this an auto or manual? if manual, you may have a bad clutch interlock switch. This prevents the engine from starting unless the clutch is depressed., an dwill lkill all power to the ignition is it goes bad. The switch is located on teh clutch pedal mount against the firewall. You can try jumping this and see if that solves the problem.

Fill out your signature so folks can see what you have, it makes it easier to help you

Hope you've found success by now. Another area to inspect is the connector to the ignition switch. Sometimes you can even see a melted spot on the lower steering column shroud. Remove the shroud, disconnect the ign. switch connector and inspect for discolored terminals or an obviously overheated wire. Usually it's the blower that causes a meltdown in this area, but you say yours is still working, so it may be a different circuit overheated in the same area. Tilt steering can cause a problem here too, the wires may fatigue and break, or a terminal may become pulled out of the connector.

Be sure to find out why the fusible links melted before you drive off down the road into the sunset!
