mechanical pump will not go back on
help please Really need my truck. Had low fuel pressure so replaced mechanical pump, procedure went just fine except it did not fix the low fuel pressure. One day later she started to leak diesel badly so took everything off again thinking it was a cross threaded fuel line. but no, so who knows now. Problem now is I can not get the pump back on. So far its been an awesome 4-5 hours over two days trying to get this thing on why why why????
anybody have a suggestion.
97 12v 4x4 auto. I have checked the fuel return line and fuel tank sludge.

I would suggest turning the engine over until the fuel pump lobe is on the base circle. It sounds like it's on top of, or climbing the lobe, and that makes it difficult to put the pump in place. It'll come out just fine, but won't go back in.
You can experience the same problems, to a lesser degree, with the ford 7.3 mechanical lift pumps, both on the side, and in the valley. And old chevy gasser fuel pumps were the same way.
Good luck.
