Leaking From Fuel Cannister

My fuel cannister bracket just started leakingthe first day of the cold snap here in South Texas. Mine is leaking from the fuel filter canister, where the two wires enter the top of the canister through the rubber plug. Can this plug be replaced? Do I need to get another sensor (I am assuming the wires are a pigtail for the water in fuel sensor)? What is the fix for this?

I am noticing a slight drop in fuel pressure as well. If I install a FASS, does it take the place of the the fuel filter cannister? If so, what is done with the electrical connection (two wires going into the rubber plug on top o fthe cannister bracket) and rubber plug? Do you just not hook it back up?

Thanks in advance.

Well, replaced #2 LP and removed the canister to "reseal" the leaking fuel heater insert on top. About 2 hrs for the whole project. After market LP on order. You may want to check this as a possible fuel leak location.

I got in my truck this morning to go to work and mine is leaking (pouring) @ the canister also. I really didn't get a good look at it because I was running late and wound up taking the wifes car. Hopefully mine is just a loose connection but with the luck I've been having I'll need a complete long block.

You can fix that leak! I had EXACTLY the same problem shortly after acquiring my truck. The two wires entering the top of the filter housing go to a fuel heater. Remove the whole shebang from the truck. You are going to need new Torx drivers to dissassemble the unit, new crush washers for the banjo bolts, and a new O-RING. It's the O-RING that's allowing fuel to leak.
Once you get the thing out of the truck, there are like 3 torx screws that hold the element into the top of the housing. Once those are out, the black thing the wires go through should pull out of the hole, and you'll see the 0-RING that needs to be replaced. The hardest part of the job for me was figuring out how to get the wires out of the connector so I could get a new 0-RING on. The O-RING won't go over that connector.
Hope this helps.
Another suggestion I got from when I asked about this problem on the forum was to remove the heater and plug the hole. That would have worked for me here in Las Vegas, but who knows if I'll get sent to North Dakota some day??

Here is my stupid question of the day.....Where did you get the o-ring from?

I went and bent the ear of the local cummins parts rep.....we went through all the Fleetguard part numbers and ending up calling fleetguard direct. Everything for that style fuel cannister is obsolete.

If you can get me the location to get the o-ring....or a part number....it would help. If not, I will either be plugging the hole and installing a different fuel heater (in-line)......or going with the FASS or Airdog to remove the obsolete parts all together....including the stock lift pump.

There is information regarding swapping over to the newer style filter cannister......but its about $200.00, you have to fab some stuff, and your still stuck with the stock lift pump.

Too much info to digest for me right now.

Nitrile or Buna-N O-Rings can be purchased at Bearing supply places, some discount auto parts stores, and in some cases, regular hardware stores.
