intercooler

Im running a tst powermax on my 05 ram. I was driving down the road getting on it a i heard a blast of air and the turbo would only build about 3 pounds of boost. Come to find out the plastic intercooler tank blew. I thought i had seen on another post on here a while ago that someone else had the same problem and that dodge was upgrding those to steal ones. If someone could give me some input it would be greatly appreciated.

a intercooler out of a wrecked 04.5 will work good if you can find one. the 04.5 have the metal ends have not heard of dodge upgrading to metal due to the fact that a stock plastic intercooler on a stock truck is fine.

A friend of mine had the same thing happen to his 05. He bought a new one from dodge and it was aluminum but I don’t know how much it cost him. Both my 2005 and 2006 had aluminum tanks when i bought them.

take the chip out then take it in to dodge. i had 2 replaced under warranty the first was another plastic one because the aluminum ones were on backorder. then finally i popped it again and they replaced it with the aluminum one. No problems now, both under warranty and i see 42lbs of boost all the time

Hmm read the post. It was about 1200 out the door meaning installed. and about 800 for the cooler itself.

The "cool it" intetrcooler is only $800 and some change would have went aftermarket.

LOL
You don’t know my buddy. If it isn't rigged or the cheapest thing he can possibly do it isn't on his trucks. Last year he had trucks 7. I think's he's down to 4 now. All 2005/2006 3500’s.

Yes they probably can. But for my buddy like me he runs freight on these trucks and has drivers in them so taking them to a DC dealer is the best thing to do in most cases. Everyone knows to beware of some dealers though. Some will just do anything to hook you and others just have bad techs. It blew out on his driver in Fort Worth. A DC dealer told him he had a bad turbo. He sent another driver back to get the truck from that shop after it had been there for almost a week. Now he had this driver drive it back to Alabama with a bad turbo, (so that dealer told him). Ok now I'm like you and would have known the turbo isn't bad or he'd not made it out of Dallas much less back to Alabama. Yea he buys a LKQ turbo and puts it on anyway. Nope didn't fix it. I told him over the phone the turbo couldn't be bad before the hand. In fact I asked if he checked the coolers rubber boots to see if he blew one of those. LOL He then takes it to his local DC dealer whom he trusts and they tell him he cooler is blown. They replaced it for him and all is good now. Me I like putting money in my trucks so I don't have nightmares like that. Although I have been left in my personal 2005 truck on the road dead but that’s a very long story that hasn't ended yet.
