Hopefully a simple fix

Problem : My truck seems to lull in a position in the throttle.

Example: I'm driving 45 mph down a flat road not accelerating nor decelerating, and when i try to give it throttle to pick up speed, nothing happens, no turbo spool up no engine rev up nothing. I can press the throttle all the way to the floor, I can feel the tranny shift ( auto ) and a second or two laters the truck immediately seems to get life and roars and spools up and takes off. Now if I do not push the pedal to the floor i can bounce it between almost WOT and nothing, and the truck seems to not notice the difference. It does not happen everytime. But it just started an hour ago on the 50 drive back from the city. Never had this problem before.

Truck : Stock 2002 2500, no mods, 4x4, 82 degrees outside temp No computer codes, no check engine light, all gauges reading normal

From all I have heard this may be one of the two things: APPS that needs a reset, or the injection pump getting ready to go.
Reset the APPS sensor (look up the Sticky posts at the top of the forum),
Read DTC codes by turning key on, off, on, off and on. The codes should list in the odometer window. Hope you don't have 216 or any other from that area...

[QUOTE=PaulDaisy;1429825]From all I have heard this may be one of the two things: APPS that needs a reset, or the injection pump getting ready to go.

Well I am currently reseting the APPS, and anyone have a used IP that they just recently upgraded laying around? heh If i need to buy a New IP, what do you all recommend, rather have a performance IP that a stocker because i will bomb this truck as soon as I finish school and my internship! (Maybe Sooner)

really hate to find out the IP is dead, the truck doesnt even have 70k miles on it yet... But I did beat down the BMW that decided to illegally pass me in corner on the side of the interstate... hmm, and it did drive fine for 40 miles after that, not a problem till after i got off the hilly interstate..

Is your pedal a potentiometer?

SO I reset the apps, nothing changed. I had to drive the truck yesterday, and the same problem happened. I have noticed that when poeple on here talk about the vp44 going out that the truck loses power or whatnot. Mine sort of does this, Mine goes into the dead pedal spot at 45-65 mph, if i release the pedal all the way, the power returns, if i push the pedal to the floor the truck revs up and takes off like a gun. If I keep the truck above 69 mph I have no problems. I drove it 300 miles at 70 with no problems, but as soon as i got on a 55 mph hiway, it was over and the problem started again. Is this the Vp44 or shall i look elsewhere? No codes or check engine has shown up, there is plenty of power all else within the engine driving.

I did the "bump" test on the truck to hear that the lift pump is running, which it is, now heres the question, What should it sound like, Smooth or? Mine sounds like a quiet engraver tool...

I don't think the sound of it is any indication of its function. Only a pressure gauge will tell if the LP is working properly.

Bingo! New VP-44 is in your future. You can still drive it untill it drops, but it is going. Don't plan any long trips!
