HELP! - My third brake light wiring is messed up!
I am on the road right now with a problem. The third brake light wiring is messed up and the third stop light on my truck is not working and the canopy light is out! The truck was just back from the shop and the brake lamp worked just fine. They did have to remove the canopy 3 times to make the fix! The problem is in the left turn signal and the now screwed up in the taps to the canopy.
I will be here for about another hour or so and then I must continue on my trip!
Thanks.

Sorry but I'm confused by your message. Can you elaborate?
Do you have a canopy on your bed? If you do, does it have a 3rd brake light?
Or is it the 3rd brake light on the top of the cab that isn't working?
Is it true that the white light mounted in your 3rd brake light on the top of your cab is not working?
What year truck do you have?
Have you checked your fuses?
Do your turn signals work? If not, which ones? Left, right, front, back?

Sorry for the confusion, I am very tired(longgggggggggggggg day)!
The third brake light on the top of the canopy. The cab lights all work including the third brake light and cargo light. The issue is with the canopy lights only.
The fuzes all checkout. All functions of the stock taillights work fine. The taps to the canopy are all in the rear left hand light assembly. A power lead from the engine compartment is intact and providing power. The taps to the canopy are all messed up and I found one wire from the canopy just hanging.
The truck is a 99 4x4 slt reg. cab, CTD, bone stock except for the canopy.

I just looked at my 2004 shop manual and to be honest, it's kinda confusing and on top of that, I'm sure the wire colors won't match from 1999 to 2004.
Do you have a voltmeter and a helper?
If you had a voltmeter and a helper to push on the brake pedal, you could determine which wire is hot down there in the left turn signal housing when the brakes are pressed.
The canopy light (also called a dome light?) probably isn't working for 1 of several reasons:
1. The bulb is burned out
2. The ground is bad
3. The bulb isn't making contact in its socket
