Help! 2005 3500 cummins 5.9 ecm
I erased my ecm with my bullydog pmt
, and I may have fried my ecm. It will not reload the settings, and my fuel pump cycles constantly. Towed it to the dodge house and theyre workin on it now, but I'm waitin on the news. If I buy the ecm from them, the price is over 2k
without labor or programming. Any ideas of things I can try before going that route?
If not any Idea on the best place to buy one preprogrammed for the best price and fast shipping? I am very technically and mechanically savvy with most things, but this is my first go around with my diesel. Any input will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the responses. My PMT dealer spent two hours trying removing battery cables and shorting the cables (un-attached to the batteries of course) clearing the ecm, then trying to force the dodge program into memory. At the end of the day, I ended up removing the ECM and FedEx ing it to Bully Dog, in order to let them reprogram it in idaho. I guess we'll see on tuesday if they can make it work.
He explained to me what happened was this: I had "confused the hell out of the ECM"
, because I had overwritten the the sim card with the latest update from Bully Dog, and I had not returned the ECM back to stock settings, before trying to update it with the new program. Effectively, I had wiped out the data that the ECM was looking for on the sim card, and when I tried to download the new update, the PMT didn't know what to look for on the ECM (it was looking for original dodge info, but the old Bully Dog info was still there)
I will know on Tuesday if that assesment is correct. I will update this post so hopefully someone else will find something useful in this post, and hopefully save them from the 2300.00-2500.00 that the Dodge house hinted that I would be spending on a new ECM.

Sorry for the late update, I had forgotten about this post. I did get it fixed. Bullydog reprogrammed it, sent it back, I put it back on and, the most beautiful sound...my Cummins purrring once again...it was an expensive lesson, but not as expensive as it could have been.
Lesson:
NEVER TRY TO OVERWRITE A PROGRAM WITHOUT FIRST RESTORING IT BACK TO FACTORY CONDITION!!

Glad you didn't have to buy a new ECM but this is why (and I'm not bashing you) that I like my Smarty. It keeps me from messing up my truck because I have a brain cramp.

depending on how the trucks are equipped swapping ECM's can be a bit dicey.
