Govenor spring shim and idle adjustiment

I did the AFC springs, GS4K, and #10 plate today and now I can't get it to idle. I know I need to adjust the idle but where the heck is the adjustment? Apparently there is a 10mm nut that you have to back off then adjust the screw but I can't find where it is.

More importantly, when I pulled the old gov springs out there were some shims on the outside (under the inner springs) of the spring seat and then some underneath the spring seat. I took all of them out but in reading on here I am beginning to think I should have left the shims under the spring seat in there.

I amswered my own question

This should help others in the future.

The two shims under the spring seat should be left in place. On mine there was one that was a wide shim and another that was much thinner, this seams to be the norm, they both should stay in.

As to adjusting the idle

I hope this helps someone else.

Go to Piers diesel's web site and follow the link to his technical article (with photos) on setting up the springs on the GSK.

If you have correctly installed the GSK there will be no need to adjust your idle unless your timing was way too low in the first place.
